  • Patent number: 7091992
Abstract: The present invention provides a three-dimensional display system by using Integral Photography (TIP) technology. The present invention comprises an elemental lens switch located between a lens array and an image display for selectively opening and closing each elemental lens; an image processor for generating elemental images and synchronizing them with control signals of the elemental lens switch; an image display for displaying the elemental images; and a lens array comprising elemental lenses, for forming the three-dimensional image by refracting and integrating the elemental images displayed on the display. Hence, it is possible to display three-dimensional images with a wider viewing angle than that of the conventional IP method, because each elemental lens is synchronized with the corresponding elemental image and is switched properly.

  • Patent number: 7091993
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for digitally compositing an object from an input image onto a destination image. The object is composited from an image having an arbitrary or non-uniform colored background containing some non-static elements onto a destination image with reduced effects from shadows cast by the object and with reduced gaps or holes within the object. Various improvements in the compositing procedure such as shadow reduction and hole filling, and less restrictive requirements regarding the object's surroundings are disclosed. A background model is created and a frame of an input image containing the object is obtained. An alpha image is created in which each pixel is either a zero, indicating it is not part of the object, or a one, indicating that it is part of the object.

  • Patent number: 7075548
Abstract: A technique for detecting texture sharing between multiple contexts having unique ID's includes obtaining a texture usage mask of a subject texture and a context ID of a subject context. A first logic operation with the texture usage mask of the subject texture and the context ID of the subject context is performed to produce a resultant value. The subject texture is determined not to be shared by another context with the subject context upon the resultant value being equal to a first predetermined value. The subject texture is determined to be shared by another context with the subject context upon the resultant value being equal to a second predetermined value which is different from the first predetermined value. The texture usage mask of a subject texture may be revised prior to the subject texture being used by another context by performing a second logic operation with the texture usage mask and a context ID of another context to produce a resultant new texture usage mask for the subject texture.

  • Patent number: 7075533
Abstract: A system performs refraction mapping for an image having an object, the object being viewed along at least one line of sight and at least partially through a boundary of first and second at least semi-transparent media. The boundary defines at least one normal vector at one or more intersections of the line of sight and the boundary. The system includes: a perspective transformation unit operable to project a three-dimensional version of the object on a two-dimensional texture plane using a perspective view transformation algorithm to obtain texture addresses of the object, the texture plane being perpendicular to the line of sight and the transformation being performed without regard to refraction; and a refraction determination unit operable to obtain at least one refraction vector for at least one of the texture addresses, a given refraction vector being a function of a component of the at least one normal vector that is parallel to the texture plane.

  • Patent number: 7064757
Abstract: Data tables that are required for the proper processing of font glyphs are automatically synthesized if they do not form part of an original font definition. The synthesized tables are stored in an annex file that is associated with the font, rather than being incorporated into the font definition. As a result, the integrity of the original font data is maintained, and does not adversely affect font protection systems that are based upon font data.

  • Patent number: 7064770
Abstract: A method and system for circularly symmetric anisotropic filtering over an extended elliptical or rectangular footprint in single-pass digital image warping are disclosed. The filtering is performed by first finding and adjusting an ellipse that approximates a non-uniform image scaling function in a mapped position of an output pixel in the input image space. A linear transformation from this ellipse to a unit circle in the output image space is determined to calculate input pixel radii inside the footprint and corresponding filter coefficient as a function of the radius. The shape of the footprint is determined as a trade-off between image quality and processing speed. In one implementation, profiles of smoothing and warping components are combined to produce sharper or detail enhanced output image. The method and system of the invention produce natural output image without jagging artifacts, while maintaining or enhancing the sharpness of the input image.

  • Patent number: 7053917
Abstract: A display device is provided that does not cause the viewer to experience a feeling that something is abnormal, even when the relative positions of the display device and the viewer fluctuate. The display device basically includes a display section, a motion detecting section, an image displacement computing section and a display control section. The display section displays an image within a display region of a non-head mounted display screen. The motion detecting section detects a movement of the display section. The image displacement computing section computes a translational displacement of the display section based on the movement of the display section. The display control section adjusts a display position of the image within the display region of the display section based at least on the translational displacement of the display section. As a result, the displayed image appears stationary in space to the viewer.

  • Patent number: 7034819
Abstract: An apparatus for generating an interleaved stereo image includes a 3D graphics engine, an interleaved data merger and a register. The 3D graphics engine generates a shrunken left-eye image and a shrunken right-eye image of a stereo image based on video source data, the vertical sizes of the shrunken left-eye image and the shrunken right-eye image are shrunk compared with the vertical size of the video source data. The interleaved data merger stores the shrunken left-eye image and the shrunken right-eye image into two consecutive memory segments, and scans the memory segments while displaying the stereo image. A register controls a line number of a display region, so that the rows of the left-eye image shrunk and the right-eye image shrunk arrive at the display region in line-interleaved order. The invention also discloses a method for generating an interleaved stereo image.

  • Patent number: 7006110
Abstract: The invention relates to a method, a device, a system and a software program product for determining for a pixel a coverage mask reflecting an orientation and possibly a distance from the pixel center of an original edge vector. The pixel is to be employed for displaying at least a part of a geometric primitive on a display, and the original edge vector represents an oriented edge of the geometric primitive. The method comprises as a first step determining one of four quadrants of a Cartesian coordinate system to which the original edge vector belongs due to its orientation. The original edge vector is then transposed into a predetermined one of the four quadrants. Next, a stored coverage mask is fetched, which is associated at least indirectly to the transposed edge vector. Finally, the fetched coverage mask is transformed to the quadrant to which the original edge vector belongs.
