  • Patent number: 9219051
Abstract: A clamping apparatus and method for applying a force to a workpiece during processing includes a base defining a work area. The work area is configured to receive a joined structure including a substrate and a die. A component is positionable in the work area and over the joined structure. An adjustable releasable structure is positionable over the component and the joined structure and includes a resilient mechanism having an inner member for contacting the component to apply an inner downward force to the component. The resilient mechanism also includes outer members for applying an outer downward force to opposing distal edge areas of the substrate. An external downward force is applied to the adjustable releasable structure, such that the inner and outer members apply the inner and outer downward forces to the component and the opposing distal edge areas of the substrate, respectively, during processing of the joined structure.

  • Patent number: 9211481
Abstract: A system and method of making a remarkably bright high-gain reflective beam-splitter is presented. Each non-glued together touching layer of the multilayered film of the beam splitter has front and back reflective surfaces that additively increase the brightness. The system can include tables, step-down shelves, cutting bars, gripper units, tension units, a frame, a hoist assembly, and dollies. Constructing the beam-splitter can use grippers that slip slightly, as a function of applied tensioning force, along the trimmed edges of the multilayered film. This slip gripping scheme can result in constructing substantially coplanar sheets of the multilayered film that touch each other face to face and result in removing most of the air between the sheets. The planar integrity of the multilayered film of the high-gain reflective beam-splitter can be maintained at almost any desired display angle even when the high-gain reflective beam-splitter is as large as a standard theatrical stage.

  • Patent number: 9188142
Abstract: A fastener attached to a first member releasably connects the first member to a second member. The fastener can have a head that moves towards or away from a housing that is separate from, or part of, the first member. A linkage assembly has linkage arm(s) extending from the head to the housing, or to the first member, and the fastener can be pivotally connected at a first end to the housing, or to the first member, and also to the head at a second end. Each linkage arm can define a joint located between the first and second ends. When unfastened, the head can be positioned away from the housing, extending each linkage arm. When fastened, the head may be positioned towards the housing, whereby the joint of each linkage arm can become displaced laterally in the fastener, e.g., connecting the second member to the first member.
