  • Patent number: 6325690
Abstract: A system and method for initiating, orienting and synchronizing the electronic display on a top or a similar spinning object. The system includes a top on which is disposed an array of lights which forms the electronic display. The electronic display lights when an external activation device is brought into close proximity to the spinning top. Within the top is a detector that detects when the external activation device is brought within a predetermined distance of said top. The detector is connected to circuitry that starts the electronic display when the external activation device is detected. The circuitry also orients the electronic display depending upon the location of the external activation device relative the top. Lastly, the circuitry synchronizes the electronic display as a function of the rate of spin of the detector past the external activation device.

  • Patent number: 6247244
Abstract: The micrometer includes a sleeve provided with an at least partially threaded inner surface and an at least partially threaded outer surface. The outer surface includes at least one deformable, tapered portion. A micrometric screw is engaged in the sleeve, and is able to be set in rotation with respect to the sleeve in such a way as to displace itself along the longitudinal measuring axis (x) of the device. A nut is engaged on the external threading of the sleeve and is able to be put in contact with the tapered portion in such a way as to deform it in order to adjust the play between the screw and the sleeve. The tapered portion is devoid of longitudinal slits; its deformability is provided by an external diameter variable along its periphery, preferably by an odd number of flat segments.

  • Patent number: 6227928
Abstract: A fixture, process and kit allow a user to construct game calls at home with little effort and at low cost. A kit that includes the fixture, call frames, and reeds provides the materials a person needs to construct game calls to custom specifications. The fixture includes a base block that is placed on a flat surface, such as a table. The base block includes a reed recess where one or more reeds are placed flat, one atop the other. Once the reed or reeds are in place, clamps are used to secure each end of the reed or reeds to the base block. Once the ends are secure, a tensioning rod is used to stretch the reed or reeds to the desired tension. Once the reed or reeds are to the desired tension, the bottom portion of a call frame is inserted into a frame recess in the base block by sliding the call frame under the reed or reeds.

  • Patent number: 6224450
Abstract: An activity belt to be worn by a cyclist has amusement devices attached. The amusement devices entertain a child riding in a child carrier seat behind the cyclist. The amusement devices may attach with clips so they can be changed to suit the age and interests of the child. The activity belt provides back support for the cyclist and a pocket for storing small items while cycling.

  • Patent number: 6203395
Abstract: An electronic activity center for infants includes a spring biased kick bar, a cross bar supported above the infant, a plurality of hanging toys suspended from the cross bar, and a rotating “motion” bar with rotating flippers and disks mounted on the cross bar. The kick bar and the hanging toys are connected to an electronic control unit mounted inside the frame of the activity center. The electronic control unit controls output of music and sounds responsive to movement of the kick bar and/or hanging toy. The electronic unit also controls motion the rotating bar responsive to movements of the kick bar and hanging toys. Activation of the music, sounds and rotating bar responsive to movement of the kick bar and/or hanging toys are believed to encourage kicking of the infant's feet and swinging of the infant's arms and thus aid in the development of motor skills.

  • Patent number: 6199291
Abstract: An alignment fixture that may be used to align the components of a wafer etching machine. The fixture includes a base supporting at least one first alignment guide and a plurality of second alignment guides. The components to be aligned using the fixture may include inner and outer concentric rings. The outer ring may include one or more first position locator guides that are matched with the first alignment guide to establish a known positional relationship with the base. The inner ring may include one or more second position locator guides that are matched simultaneously with one or more first position locator guides and the second alignment guides to establish a known positional relationship between the outer ring and the inner ring. The outer and inner ring may be secured together in the established positional relationship using a conventional fastening means known in the art.

  • Patent number: 6178652
Abstract: Apparatus 10 for measuring the head of a horse 12 incorporates various components, such as cheek straps 14, each of which is movable (slidable) relative to another component in order to produce an overall desired fit of the apparatus 10, which is generally in the form of a bridle, to the head 12. Once the desired fit has been achieved, windows 16 and numerals 18 allow measurements to be taken, indicating the relative positions of the slidable components. These measurements may give direct measurements of the lengths required of various components of the bridle to be made, or may be other measurements from which strap lengths can be deduced. The apparatus 10 generally resembles the bridle which will be constructed, and thus allows the user to ensure a good fit to a particular head (which is partly an aesthetic judgement, and partly based on measurement and experience), so that a bridle can then be made with reasonable confidence that it will be a good fit.

  • Patent number: 6098297
Abstract: The laser alignment tool includes a laser beam emitter supported in a projector assembly which, when mounted on a precision alignment component, such as a pulley, is directed at a target assembly mounted on another precision alignment component. The plate of the target assembly against which the laser beam is directed is coated, textured or the like (e.g., has inscribed cross hairs) to produce a distinctive visual effect when struck by the laser with the precision alignment components in the correct or preselected alignment relative to one another. Moreover, if the precision alignment components are not in the correct or preselected alignment, impingement of the laser beam against the target plate does not produce the distinctive visual effect. The target plate may be contoured such that the distinctive visual effect indicates that the precision alignment components are in the correct or preselected alignment relative to one another in additional orientation planes.
