Abstract: An image forming apparatus which does not reserve a print job when a user is supposedly close to the image forming apparatus so that convenience for the user can be improved. Data that is to be sent to an external apparatus and includes identification information is generated and written in a near-field wireless communication unit which the image forming apparatus has. When the image forming apparatus receives a print request, it is judged whether or not the identification information is included in the print request. When it is judged that the identification information is not included in the print request, the image forming apparatus is controlled to carry out a printing process without reserving a print job corresponding to the print request.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes: a conveyance unit configured to convey a medium; a sensor configured to sense a medium being conveyed; and a controller configured to control the conveyance unit and acquire a result of the sensing performed by the sensor. The sensor includes a light emitter, a light receiver configured to perform output in accordance with the amount of the received light, and a shielding unit including a transmissive part through which the sensing light transmits. The transmissive part has a shape in which an opening width in a direction orthogonal to a conveyance direction of the medium changes in the conveyance direction. The controller determines skewing of the medium being conveyed based on change in the amount of light received by the light receiver as the medium passes along the transmissive part and temporal change in accordance with the conveyance of the medium.

Abstract: An electronic device includes an operation unit and a controller. In a case of detecting a long-press at an icon arranged on a home screen, the controller allows a display unit to display, at a predetermined position near a display region of the icon, a submenu image for selecting detailed settings for a function associated with the icon. When detecting that a touch operation performed by a user is moved from the icon to the submenu image and then ended at the submenu image, the controller allows the display unit to display a detailed setting screen for setting detailed setting items indicated by the submenu image.

Abstract: A tape printing apparatus includes an input unit for performing editing, a temporary storage unit configured to temporarily store editing information being edited by the tape printing apparatus, and an editing-information transmitting unit configured to transmit the editing information to a portable terminal when a first operation button included in the input unit is operated in a state in which the editing information is stored in the temporary storage unit.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a storage unit that stores a personal setting value of a user, a reception unit that receives a login of the user, and a control unit that that determines whether the personal setting value of the user whose login is received can be stored in the storage unit, and in a case where it is determined that the personal setting value cannot be stored and registration of the personal setting value is instructed by the user whose login is received, performs control so as to store the personal setting value of which the registration is instructed in a virtual storage area prepared for temporary storage.

The method includes: receiving, by a print server that includes a first network hot folder and a second network hot folder, a request to create at least one local hot folder on a user computing device; determining, by the print server, that the request corresponds to the first network hot folder; and transmitting, by the print server to the user computing device, a first instruction set comprising an instruction to create a first local hot folder that implements a first transfer protocol. The first network hot folder executes a predetermined process and requires the first transfer protocol in response to executing the predetermined process, and the second network hot folder executes another process and requires a second transfer protocol.

Abstract: A device management system includes a device management apparatus, a first electronic device, a second electronic device, and an intervening apparatus. The device management apparatus includes a memory storing authorized user identification information, a receiver receiving user identification information from the first electronic device, and processing circuitry determining whether it is allowed to use at least the first electronic device. If so, third device identification information is stored. The intervening apparatus includes a receiver receiving the user identification information from the second electronic device and processing circuitry determining whether it is allowed to use at least the first electronic device. If so, the third device identification information is received.

Abstract: In a case where an image forming apparatus is connected to an information processing apparatus, correction information is generated through comparison between time information obtained by the image forming apparatus and time information obtained by the information processing apparatus. The image forming apparatus transmits, to the information processing apparatus, time information indicating a time at which setting information is updated in the image forming apparatus. The information processing apparatus corrects the received time information with the correction information. The information processing apparatus determines whether to update setting information stored in the information processing apparatus with received setting information, based on the corrected time information.

Abstract: A printing system includes a local user interface arranged to be attached to the printing system, a plurality of functional modules, and a control system. The local user interface has a display device connected to the control system, and the display device displays information on a display screen. The orientation of the display device may be detected via a determining device. The control system receives the orientation of the display device, upon a change of the orientation of the display device, and automatically determines a functional module of the plurality of modules, which is in an operator's perception view. The display device receives the information regarding the determined functional module and displays this information on an information window. A method for displaying information of a printing system is also disclosed.

Abstract: In accordance with an embodiment, an information processing apparatus comprises an imaging device configured to acquire a peripheral image of the information processing apparatus; a storage device configured to store maintenance information indicating a status of the apparatus for a maintenance; a notification device; a controller configured to detect a face of a person based on the peripheral image acquired by the imaging device, determine whether the detected person is a manager of the information processing apparatus, and control the notification device to inform the maintenance information read from the storage device if the detected person is determined as the manager of the information processing apparatus.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for merging print data and metadata for a print job processed in a print workflow. One system is a print server that monitors an input device that receives print files and metadata files, groups at least one print file and at least one metadata file into a batch based on a predetermined pattern defined for the input device, and initiates processing of the batch as a print job in a print workflow in response to a determination that the batch meets a threshold condition. A step of the print workflow is configured to merge document properties from the at least one print file and the at least one metadata file into a single document properties file. Subsequent steps in the print workflow process the print job according to the single document properties file.

Abstract: A multi-function print server administration service implemented on a server computer receives a request, by a user associated with either a vendor-administrator user account or a system administrator account, to modify a first set of one or more application services enabled on one or more multi-function print devices associated with the vendor-administrator user account. In response to receiving the requests, the multi-function print server generates a modified first set of one or more application services, which implements a modification to the one or more application services based on the received request to modify the first set of one or more application services. The multi-function print server administration service enables the modified first set of one or more application services on the one or more multi-function print devices.

Abstract: There are provided an information processing apparatus and a control method which realize job holding processing while reducing time taken to complete transmission of a job. The control method includes not notifying a spooler of deletion of the job from a job queue after the spooler specifies that transmission of all of pieces of data corresponding to the job is completed and in a case where processing of the job is not completed by a communication apparatus.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus has a plurality of functions and permits setting an operating condition for each of the functions. The image forming apparatus includes: an operating portion used for operation of selecting each of the functions and setting the operating condition; an image processor that performs an image processing in a manner that depends on a function selected and an operating condition set at the operating portion; and a controller that controls the operating portion and the image processor. If one of the functions is selected at the operating portion and a setting is determined on a predetermined operating condition that is settable within the selected function, the controller prohibits the selected function from being changed to another function.
