  • Patent number: 4024681
Abstract: A flashing system for weatherproofing the areas between adjoining structural surfaces which are continually exposed to ambient conditions. A longitudinally extending bracket member is adapted to be secured to a structural surface such as a building parapet or the like. The bracket includes a longitudinally extending opening. A sheet of flexible material (preferably elastomeric) material is supported by the bracket member and covers selected areas between the adjoining surfaces. The sheet of flexible material extends through the opening in the bracket, and a stiffening member in the form of a longitudinally extending planar member has a portion secured to the sheet of flexible material. Part of the bracket member defines a longitudinally extending track portion designed to slidably engage a longitudinal edge of the stiffening member.

  • Patent number: 4023314
Abstract: An anchor for securing a mobile home or the like in position on the ground comprises a hollow tubular anchor post having locking arms pivotably mounted at a lower end thereof for movement from an entry position wherein the locking arms lie flat against the post to a locking position wherein the locking arms are pivoted downwardly and outwardly from the post. The anchor includes a fluid jet embedding mechanism comprising an inlet for pressurized water at the upper end of the hollow anchor post and an outlet for pressurized water at the lower end of the anchor post. The anchor is embedded in the ground by directing a stream of water under pressure down the interior of the tubular anchor post and directly against the ground beneath the anchor post. This displaces the ground below the anchor and causes the anchor to embed itself firmly into the ground.

  • Patent number: 4021990
Abstract: There is provided a veneer anchor for use in a dry wall construction system. The veneer anchor comprises a plate member having a vertically projecting bar portion secured thereto and disposed in substantially parallel relationship with said plate member. The anchor is employed to secure a wall board to a vertical channel or standard framing member. Thereafter, a mason inserts a wall-tie between the plate member and projecting bar portion and the wall-tie is built into the outer wythe of the wall system. The wall-tie is capable of vertical movement and thus, vertical adjustability along the length of the projecting bar portion.

  • Patent number: 4020605
Abstract: A reversible, all seasonal roof utility unit is disclosed adapted to be placed in juxtaposition with other like units in covering a substantial portion of a roof. The unit comprises a sheet member, preferably slotted, having a light-absorbing color on one side and a light-reflecting color on the opposite side. Elevating means elevates the sheet member with respect to the roof to form an air space therebetween. The sheet member is adapted for reversible positioning with respect to the roof, whereby the light-absorbing colored side is directed away from the roof during the colder seasons, and the light-reflecting colored side is directed away from the roof during the warmer seasons. Optionally, the roof itself can have a light-absorbing color, and the utility unit can having a light-reflecting color and be detachably secured with respect to the roof in an elevated position.

  • Patent number: 4020606
Abstract: A street lighting column has upper and lower sections hinged together in such manner that the upper section can be lifted by a double-acting piston and cylinder unit connected between the column sections to a position in which it is free to pivot relative to the base section. The hinge is provided with a support plate adapted to be turned to a position in which it cooperates with a lug on one of the column sections so as to support the upper column section in its raised pivotal position when the direction of action of the piston and cylinder unit is reversed, thus automatically effecting pivoting of the upper section to a position in which it is reachable from the ground.

  • Patent number: 4016701
Abstract: A controlled expansion suspended ceiling grid member for suspended panel or tile ceilings comprises a web having a panel supporting flange provided along one of its marginal edges and a bead integral with the other marginal edge. The bead side walls are unconnected at the bead's base. An expansion accommodating portion is provided for accommodating thermal expansion in the beam and comprises three evenly spaced apart notches cut in the web in a manner which adapts the flange to fold downwardly away from the bead during beam expansion. The bead's top wall has slot means cut therein to essentially free the bead's side walls from transverse connection to adapt the side walls to buckle laterally out of their respective planes as the flange is folded so that the bead remains substantially horizontal and distortion along the beam's length is minimized.

The side walls define the outer side periphery portions of the block and include mutually facing inner surfaces. At least two opposed web walls extend between the side walls. The web walls have inner surfaces extending between the inner surfaces of the side walls. The web walls include channels situated intermediate the ends of the inner web surfaces. The channels extend in a top-to-bottom direction and converge toward the bottom of the block. An insulative plate of thermally insulative material is disposed in the cavity with the ends thereof being mounted in the channels. The insulative plate is situated intermediate the side walls to divide the cavity into a pair of air cells separating the insulative plate from the side walls. The single cavity formed between the side walls may be partitioned into a plurality of cavity portions by one or more intermediate web walls.

  • Patent number: 4015398
Abstract: A channel shaped sealing strip is made of two L-shaped members which lock together to define a channel. Each member may be made of extruded flexible material such as plastics or rubber in which is embedded a metal core or carrier. Each member may define on one of its walls a gripping rib which, in the assembled channel, faces the corresponding rib on the other member and extends continuously along and within the channel to assist in holding the strip onto a mounting flange. The extruded material of the two members may be of respectively different hardnesses. The strip may be made up into a closed loop frame, the two members along one side of which may be pulled apart to facilitate mounting of the frame on to its mounting flange.

  • Patent number: 4012875
Abstract: This disclosure teaches a structural, fire extinguishing and ventilating system for use in building construction. Parallel joists have tubular lower chords through which fire extinguishing water is circulated and from which a perforated ceiling depends to form an upper enclosure for a room. Ventilating air ducts are positioned between the joists so that the ventilating air passes over the tubular lower chords in noncontact heat exchange relationship with the fire extinguisher water and the air then passes downward through the perforated ceiling to the room.
