  • Patent number: 8909719
Abstract: Primary and secondary messages are included in a feed according to a “full thread” mode or a “stream” mode. The “full thread” mode causes a feed, when viewed, to include both primary and secondary messages. In contrast, the “stream” mode causes a feed, when viewed, to include only primary messages. In this way, a feed viewed in “full thread” mode provides to users a comprehensive view of messages included in the feed. Alternatively, a feed viewed in “stream” mode provides to users a concise view messages included in the feed.

  • Patent number: 8908650
Abstract: An interface, apparatus, and method are described for communication between a radio control (REC) node and first and second radio equipment (RE) nodes in a radio base station that transceives information over radio interface using multiple antenna carriers. The REC node is separate from and coupled to the first RE node by a first transmission link, and the second RE node coupled to the first RE by a second transmission link. Both control information and user information intended for communication between the REC node and the first RE node and the REC and the second RE node are conveyed over the first transmission link. • Patent number: 8891458
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate unsolicited indication of mobile device capability change in wireless communication networks. Upon establishing communication with an access point, a mobile device can experience a change in capability, such as by attaching a device, changing a setting in a user interface, and/or the like. Rather than waiting for a reconfiguration command, when changing base stations or switching from idle to active mode, the mobile device can transmit an unsolicited message to the access point indicating the change. The access point can support the change in subsequent uplink communications or deny such support and can accordingly notify the mobile device via radio resource control (RRC) message.

  • Patent number: 8891457
Abstract: In a wireless communication system, a base station assigns resources to mobile stations using indices. Each index is associated with an assignment schedule for assigning resources. Once the base station determines an assignment schedule to assign particular resources, it encodes the schedule into an index and transmits it. A mobile station receives the index and decodes it to recover the assignment schedule. Both the base station and the mobile station may use look-up tables and/or algorithms for storing or generating indices associated with assignment schedules. To assign resources so as to indicate transmission characteristics over the resources, the base station transmits assignment blocks. Each assignment block indicates original transmission, retransmission, persistent assignment, non-persistent assignment, HARQ signaling, RAS-HARQ signaling, DRCH assignment, and/or LRCH assignment.

  • Patent number: 8891499
Abstract: A computer with a software defined radio that can be configured based on a wireless technology specification. The computer may negotiate with a second computer that also includes a software defined radio to define a set of wireless technology specifications and trigger events indicating when each of the wireless technology specifications is to be used. As the computers communicate, if a trigger event occurs, both computers may reconfigure their software defined radios using a different specification in the set. By appropriately defining the wireless technology specifications in the set and the trigger events, the computers can operate with configurations that allow communication despite events that might otherwise disrupt communication between the computers.

  • Patent number: 8873532
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for a random access scheme for multi-channel in a wireless communication system are provided. The method for performing the random access scheme for the multi-channel in the wireless communication system includes randomly generating a backoff counter value to transmit data; adjusting the backoff counter value by taking into account status of a plurality of idle subcarrier sets per backoff slot; when the backoff counter value becomes zero, selecting one or more subcarrier sets to carry the data from the idle subcarrier sets; and transmitting the data through the selected one or more subcarrier sets. The data collision probability between the terminals can be lowered, the channel utility can be enhanced, the transfer rate in the single-channel random access scheme can be raised, and the consumption of the radio resource can be reduced without using signals for the band request and allocation.

  • Patent number: 8817809
Abstract: A method and/or apparatus is provided for performing traffic allocation based on dynamic trend analysis of communication links between two devices. Devices monitor the performance of their available communication links to determine which communication link is best to receive transmissions on. A device selects the best communication link on which to receive from another device and informs that other device to use that communication link when transmitting to it. Link information is obtained from both the transmitting device and receiving device to perform traffic allocation for communications between the two devices. This method may be performed by a low-level communication module transparent to applications and/or network transmission protocols.

  • Patent number: 8780734
Abstract: An apparatus to set a maximum transmission unit (MTU) acquires information about a wireless communication network, sets a basic MTU value based on the kind of wireless communication network as an MTU value, and checks the validity of the set MTU value. The validity of the set MTU value is checked by dividing packets by the set MTU value, transmitting the packets to a communication counterpart, and comparing a response message's error rate to a reference value. The apparatus increases the set MTU value if the set MTU value is valid, decreases the set MTU value if the set MTU value is not valid, and detects an optimal MTU value. The optimal MTU value may refer to a longest MTU value among checked MTU values that has an error rate less than the reference value according to the validity-checking process.

  • Patent number: 8775668
Abstract: A provider network is configured to redirect multimedia content between receiver devices associated with a user. Initially, a multimedia stream representative of the multimedia content is transmitted via the provider network to a first receiver device associated with the user. In response to a redirect stimulus, the provider network redirects the streaming of the multimedia content to a second receiver device associated with the user. The multimedia stream transmitted to the second receiver device can be formatted based on the characteristics of the network link between the provider network and the second receiver device, based on specified formatting rules associated with the second receiver device, and the like. The redirect stimulus can include a user-initiated redirect command provided to the provider network via the first receiver device, the second receiver device, or a third device. Alternately, the redirect stimulus can include an automated stimulus generated based on redirect rules.
