  • Patent number: 9430493
Abstract: A write allocation technique extends a conventional write allocation procedure employed by a write anywhere file system of a storage system. A write allocator of the file system implements the extended write allocation technique in response to an event in the file system. The extended write allocation technique efficiently allocates blocks, and frees blocks, to and from a virtual volume (vvol) of an aggregate. The aggregate is a physical volume comprising one or more groups of disks, such as RAID groups, underlying one or more vvols of the storage system. The aggregate has its own physical volume block number (pvbn) space and maintains metadata, such as block allocation structures, within that pvbn space. Each vvol also has its own virtual volume block number (vvbn) space and maintains metadata, such as block allocation structures, within that vvbn space.

  • Patent number: 9420078
Abstract: A portable telecommunication test set with a web browser incorporated therein is provided. A standard Hyper Text Mark-up Language or Wireless Application Protocol browser may be incorporated within the portable test set, allowing a network technician to access the Internet as well as other remotely-located sources of information to retrieve data and other useful technical information while in the field for communication network or telephone line maintenance, troubleshooting or repair. The test set may contain memory to locally store certain technical information that may be retrieved and “read” by the built-in browser module when prompted by the network technician. The web browser may display the content of the requested information on a display provided on the test set. Line-specific (as well as manufacturer-specific) test information need not be in a manufacturer-dictated proprietary format. Testing-related data may thus be supplied by a vendor other than the manufacturer of the test set.

  • Patent number: 9418110
Abstract: Techniques disclosed herein describe a data retrieval process for storing management data from a network environment using an efficient polling-based approach without sacrificing the real-time aspect of data retrieval that a push model provides. The process is highly scalable and reliable, and is useful in Network Address Translation (NAT) environments because the number of holes in a NAT firewall is minimized. The data retrieval component uses intelligent polling to retrieve data and store the data in a central database without overloading the system. A data retrieval component polls a data collection agent for a dataset. The data collection agent transfers the data set and a poll indication of when a subsequent data set will be ready for transfer. Subsequent polling is based on a processor load at a data retrieval component.

  • Patent number: 9405828
Abstract: A method of phonetically searching media information comprises receiving a plurality of search queries from one or more client systems and providing a phonetic representation of each search query. One or more search jobs are instantiated, each search job comprising a plurality of tasks, each task being arranged to sequentially read a block from an archive file. The archive file is stored within a distributed filing system (DFS) in which sequential blocks of data comprising the archive file are replicated to be locally available to one or more processors from a cluster of processors for executing the tasks. Each block stores index files corresponding to a plurality of source media files, each index file containing a phonetic stream corresponding to audio information for a given source media file. Each task obtains phonetic representations of outstanding search queries for a block and sequentially searches the block for each outstanding search query.

  • Patent number: 9396284
Abstract: Disclosed is a method, system, and program product for providing an efficient mechanism to provide updateable relational views over XML. This will allow application developers to write both queries and updates using a relational (SQL) syntax, even though the underlying data is stored as XML. According to some approaches, this is accomplished by implementing a reverse mapping from the data within the views to the node addresses of the corresponding data in the underlying XML document.

  • Patent number: 9384222
Abstract: Techniques for history enabling a table in a database system so that past versions of rows of the history-enabled table are available for temporal querying. The table is history enabled by adding a start time column to the table and creating a history table for the history-enabled table. The start time field's value in a row of the history-enabled table indicates when the contents of the row last changed. The rows of the history table are copies of rows of the history-enabled table that have been deleted or updated. The rows include end time fields whose values indicate when the row was updated or deleted. A history table's row thus indicates a period in which the history table's row was in the history-enabled table. Temporal queries are performed on a view which is the union of the history-enabled table and the history table.

  • Patent number: 9384232
Abstract: A method for confirming replicated data at a data site, including utilizing a hash function, computing a first hash value based on first data at a first data site and utilizing the same hash function, computing a second hash value based on second data at a second data site, wherein the first data had previously been replicated from the first data site to the second data site as the second data. The method also includes comparing the first and second hash values to determine whether the second data is a valid replication of the first data. In additional embodiments, the first data may be modified based on seed data prior to computing the first hash value and the second data may be modified based on the same seed data prior to computing the second hash value. The process can be repeated to increase reliability of the results.

  • Patent number: 9355191
Abstract: Technology described herein identifies and demotes query completions which divert users from their original search intent. The identified query completions may represent informational requests that are amusing diversions for some users, but which are not relevant to the actual information of interest for many users. For example, the identified query completions may represent information requests that some users may find humorous or entertaining, but which are not relevant to actual information of interest for many other users. The identification of these query completions may allow alternative query completions to be provided that can more likely assist users in finding the information they actually seek.
