Abstract: If a non-edge part of an image is thinned at a constant thinning ratio regardless of an image size (a character size or a line image width), a reduction in image density in the non-edge part becomes more conspicuous with increasing image size, which can lead to a reduction in image quality. In view of the above, the thinning ratio at which to thin data in the non-edge part of the image is determined depending on the image size. The thinning ratio is set to be smaller for images with sizes greater than or equal to a predetermined value than for images with sizes smaller than the predetermined value such that a high-quality image with sufficiently high density in its non-edge part is obtained regardless of the image size.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus of the present disclosure includes a print queue, a job writing unit, a print execution unit, a connected-state detection unit, and a maximum-number-of-storable-pages changing unit. The print queue stores print jobs on a page basis. The job writing unit writes the print jobs into the print queue. The print execution unit executes print on a recording medium based on a page from the print queue, and suspends execution of the print in a case in which a print job other than a print job of currently executed printing is cancelled. The connected-state detection unit detects a connected state of extension devices affecting a length of a conveyance path of the recording medium. The maximum-number-of-storable-pages changing unit changes a maximum number of storable pages, that can be stored in the print queue, and changes the maximum number of storable pages, based on the connected state detected.

Abstract: The disclosure proposes the automatic use of the job or image content information of a print job. This information is used to automatically adjust the general printing procedure for a print engine. The job's image content information is analyzed in the context of the constraints of the print engine to determine an improved printing procedure, which may include cycle-up operation, process control cycles, or maintenance cycles for that particular print job.

Abstract: A system for generating a set of bit masks arrays is provided (350-0 to 350-255) where the bit mask arrays (350-0 to 350-255) are such that clusters of entries of different types are spread across each array and entries of different types within the arrays are either part of a larger cluster of entries of that type or are immediately adjacent to a cluster of entries of that type. When a multi-level image (200) is converted to a half-tone image (300) utilizing the bit mask arrays (350-0 to 350-255) a half-tone image (300) which limits the occurrence of small isolated printed or unprinted areas is generated. The bit mask arrays (350-0 to 350-255) are therefore particularly suitable for use with laser printers (28,32) which have difficulty rendering half tone images which comprise small isolated printed and unprinted areas.
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus and an image forming method by which image data are prepared for performing image processing at high speed and while saving memory. Vector data are generated from data scanned by a scanning unit. In this process, a printing direction is determined from a content input from an operating unit or information on an outputting device. If the printing direction and the scanning direction differ, control of an order of the data is performed to prepare a document after rotation.
Abstract: An image watermarking method includes a color transform on RGB image data to derive CMYK image data that define a constant K image. Variable infrared (IR) mark data defining an IR mark are received and a sparse two-dimensional pattern of black pixels is defined that corresponds to the variable IR data, e.g., using Gold codes or pseudorandom binary sequences. A watermarked black separation K? is defined by embedding the sparse two-dimensional pattern into the constant K black separation K? while maintaining local average levels. A watermarked image includes the watermarked black separation K? in combination with the CMY separations of the constant K image. A decoding process includes using an IR microscope fitted with IR LEDs and an IR pass filter to capture an IR image, which is subjected to exposure correction, thresholding, and dilation operations to extract the two-dimensional pattern for subsequent correlation processing.

Abstract: An image processing device includes an acceptance unit which accepts an input of print data; a decision unit which decides whether or not a draw instruction for a two-color image consisting of a background color and a foreground color is contained in the print data accepted by the acceptance unit; and a conversion unit which converts to draw a graphic representing a part of the foreground color in the two-color image for an image drawn area, instead of a draw process in pixel units concerning the two-color image, when the decision unit decides that the draw instruction for the two-color image is contained in the print data.
Abstract: An image processing apparatus compares vector data of a target document and vector data of a stored document stored in the image processing apparatus, converts each of the vector data of the target document and the vector data of the stored document into text data and extracts a difference between the text data converted from the vector data of the target document and the text data converted from the vector data of the stored document to generate and store difference data in a text format.
Abstract: An image-reading device includes a plurality of image sensors, a starting signal generator and a signal timing regulator. Each image sensor reads images on a pixel basis and generating an image signal indicative of the image. The image signal is an analog signal. The starting signal generator generates starting signals at every predetermined time period. A sampling period for sampling the image signal is set within the predetermined time period. In response to the starting signal sequentially inputted to the image sensors, the image sensors read the image until the predetermined time period is expired. The signal timing regulator delays an input timing at which the starting signal is inputted to the image sensor so that the sampling periods for the plurality of image sensors are different from one another.
