At least one barb protrudes from each of the leg portions, the barb having projecting points. The distance between the distal edge of the projecting points defines an outer leg width. The crown portion of the crown section has a greater width than the pair of leg portions in parallel. The outer crown width is greater than the outer leg width.

The clamps are designed such that the second securing element can be pushed onto the engagement end such that the teeth of the engagement end and the clamps snap into each other. The clamps move from a first radial position to an external second radial position to engage or disengage a snapped-in state when shifting the external toothing and the first internal toothing to each other.

    Abstract: A captive fastener comprising a head, a neck, and a threaded shaft, and one or more spring loaded pins disposed within respective cavities of the shaft along at least first and second radial directions. Each spring loaded pin is located in a chamber of the shaft with an annular rim on at a proximal end of the pin that prevents the pin completely passing through an aperture and out the chamber. The distal end of the pin projects through the aperture and out of the shaft when the spring is not compressed. That is, the spring biases the pin outward such that a distal portion of the pin projects through the hole, but the spring can collapse to allow the fastener to pass through a fitted opening sized to receive the shaft of the fastener before the pin expands outward.

For anchoring, the 2nd surface of the shim further includes a counterbored or countersunk hole having a shoulder including a narrower passthrough aperture aligned with the threaded anchor hole, through which an anchor screw extends for rotational mating with the threaded anchor hole. The anchor screw also has a head wider than the passthrough aperture, and adapted to accept rotary force for rotational movement and fixing the shim in place.
