  • Patent number: 4076149
Abstract: A transmission couples the main drive of an electrostatographic development system to a toner dispensing roll and a spring-loaded striker of a toner dispenser for the development system. The transmission typically includes a Geneva wheel for periodically actuating a lever arm which is coupled by a one-way clutch to a drive shaft for the toner dispenser. That drive shaft suitably is, in turn, mated with a slot at the outer end of the dispensing roll by an enlarged flat or key which functions to alternately cock and release the striker as the dispensing roll is being rotated.

  • Patent number: 4074743
Abstract: A radial carcass pneumatic tire having a carcass ply turn-up portion includes a reinforcement ply folded around each bead ring. Each reinforcement ply overlaps and extends beyond the turn-up edge of the carcass ply and includes for example a steel cord portion of thick cross-section abutting a textile cord portion of thinner cross section. The cords throughout the reinforcement ply are arranged obliquely with the cords of the radial carcass ply. In other respective embodiments a transition zone between the thick and thin portions of the reinforcement ply includes a cover strip, an overlapping portion and a filler strip. The bead reinforcement constructions reduce bead element edge separations and provide a desirable graduated stiffness from the bead to the beginning area of the sidewall permitting optimal transferring of torque and force.

  • Patent number: 4074830
Abstract: A rotating disc has perforated seed pockets which pick up individual kernels of seed from a cavity of a planter housing. Bulk seed flows by gravity from a hopper to the cavity which is pressurized by a blower. As the disc rotates through the cavity, air flowing through the perforated pockets will move the seeds into the pockets and hold them there as the disc rotates to bring the seed carrying pockets into axially confronting relation with a flat sealing surface. The flat sealing surface holds the seed in the pockets as the disc rotates further to a position wherein the pockets are exposed to an open bottom area of the housing at which point the seeds are free to fall by gravity into the soil.

  • Patent number: 4074741
Abstract: Anti-skid tire chains for automobiles are known to be consisted of a various number of cross strands of steel or plastic link chains which have been fitted together into a harness or halter type of arrangement, and which is affixed to an automobile tire by means of some type of fastener mechanism which has been engineered (in peculiarity) to a given make of tire chain. In this invention, only one strand of steel or plastic link chain is constituted in every complete unit. Independent strips of flexible moulded plastic, having serrations molded onto one of the surfaces of each, are fitted to each end of the chain, and in their function thereof comprise a graduated fastener. A further independent piece of hard plastic, moulded in a `C`-clasp type configuration, serves to lock the fastener parts together. The invention is affixed to the tire through a wheel fello, and when installed, the whole has assumed the shape of a loop enclosing the `tubularity` of the tire.

  • Patent number: 4071167
Abstract: An apparatus for dispersing substances into one another by subjecting them to shear forces between a rotating platen and a stationary or counter-rotating platen which have opposed work surfaces interfaced and forced toward engagement with one another. An oriface leads through one platen to the other platen. A pump forces an agglomerate of substances through the channel and radially outwardly between the platens during relative rotation of the platens. The agglomerate is subjected to shear forces as it moves radially outwardly between the platens to disperse the substances to one another. The mutually dispersed substances emit at the periphery of the platens and are collected in a trough.

  • Patent number: 4062476
Abstract: A portable ice dispenser for dispensing cubed or crushed ice from a receptacle into a container, such as a glass or the like, automatically when the glass is placed under a discharge chute on the front of the ice dispenser. The ice dispenser includes a thermally insulated cylindrical ice receptacle which includes a discharge opening in a front wall. The cylindrical receptacle is rotatably mounted about a generally horizontal concentric axis by a frame and includes a drive train for rotating the receptacle about the horizontal axis. An on-off switch is provided below the discharge opening in the receptacle for engagement by a glass placed under the opening which contacts and closes the switch to start the receptacle rotating. A plurality of internal, inwardly radially directed, fins are provided within the receptacle to agitate and carry the ice particles therewith.

  • Patent number: 4062474
Abstract: In an apparatus for the metered feeding of poorly flowable materials by endless conveyor belt having an upper and lower run, the conveyor belt includes carrier plates which define pockets for conveying the material from an inlet through a compacting zone and a metering zone, to an outlet at which the metered compacted material is released from the pockets and allowed to pass out of the outlet. In the metering zone the upper and lower runs of the conveyor belt are maintained in close adjacency such that the inward ends of the plates on the upper and lower runs of the conveyor belt cooperate with each other to provide a known amount of material in the pockets on the lower run of the conveyor belt.

  • Patent number: 4057091
Abstract: This disclosure related to a pneumatic tire which is collapsible in its uninflated shape. This disclosure relates to a pneumatic tire and the rim combination of the pneumatic tire and a rim wherein the bead areas of the tire are capable of rotating in their mounted, uninflated shape to attain a different configuration in their mounted, inflated shape. The tire may have the characteristic wherein the sidewalls are capable of being folded axially inwardly toward each other when the tire is mounted on the rim and uninflated. In the uninflated and folded shape the tire and the combination of the tire and rim of this disclosure conserve space and weight over a standard tire and tire and rim combination. This uninflated, folded feature is designed primarily to be used as a spare tire replacement in automobiles.

  • Patent number: 4050611
Abstract: A device for filling the crank case or transmission of an internal combustion engine with oil dispensed from a can opened by the device. The device comprises an outer casing, a cup member in the casing spaced from the side walls and bottom of the casing, registering openings in the cup member and casing bottoms, and a piercing and dispensing tube mounted in the cup member having a beveled piercing end facing upwardly in the cup member. Air passages are provided by the space between the cup member and casing communicating with the interior of the piercing tube. The tube is mounted in the cup member by a pin of magnetic material which has two functions: to attract ferrous matter and to separate the fluid flow momentarily, thereby allowing air passing upwardly or downwardly with the fluid, to mix with the fluid. The spacing means between the cup member and the casing may be a plurality of bars connected to the side walls of the cup member and having legs extending beyond the cup member bottom.

  • Patent number: 4047638
Abstract: A rotating disc has perforated seed pockets which pick up individual kernels of seed from an air pressurized cavity of a planter housing. Air flowing through the perforated pockets creates a pressure differential which moves a kernel into each pocket as the pocket moves on a circular path upwardly through the cavity. The pocket then moves into axially confronting relation with a flat sealing surface. The flat sealing surface holds the seed in the pocket as the disc rotates further to bring the pocket to the lower part of the housing where the seed falls by gravity into the soil. Each of the circumferentially spaced pockets has an opening in its bottom which is large enough to permit air flow therethrough but smaller than the seed kernels to be planted. The pockets are clam shell shaped with the more gentle slope on the side of the pocket toward the direction of rotation of the disc during planting.

  • Patent number: 4047641
Abstract: A bottle or like container of relatively hard material such as glass is provided with a readily destructible neck extension portion of relatively soft plastics material. A dispensing optic for screwing into the neck extension has a cutter or cutters arranged to be projected from their retracted state, by the first operation of the optic after insertion into the neck extension, into cutting engagement with the wall of such extension. Rotation of the optic with a view of removing it from the bottle automatically causes the cutter or cutters to sever the neck extension to render the bottle unsuitable further with a dispensing optic and thus prevents re-filling of the bottle with an inferior product and the dispensing of such product through a dispensing optic.
