    Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and systems directed to refreshing signal information in an infrastructure wireless node location mechanism. The wireless node location mechanism selectively terminates connections with wireless clients to refresh signal strength information used to compute an estimated location for the wireless clients. The wireless node location mechanism terminates the connection between a WLAN and a given wireless node, causing in typical WLAN protocol implementations, the mobile station to transmit frames or packets on all available operating channels in a given band. This allows access points and other WLAN elements, operating on different frequency channels, to detect frames transmitted by the mobile station and provide refreshed signal strength information to a wireless node location mechanism.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing real time updates of a database describing the features of individual terminals of a shared plan telecommunications group for communication sessions from and to that individual terminal. The characteristics (numbering plan, incoming and outgoing screening, alternate routing, types of service provided) of each of the individual stations of the shared communication plan are stored in a database accessed through a server. The database can be updated in real time by a designated one of the stations in the shared group. The designated station can also handle appeals for an exception to the restrictions stored in the database. The designated station can receive immediate or periodic information on activity of individual stations, or can receive such information on request.

Upon receipt of a bit string of the data read from the flash memory, a signal processing section exercises on/off control over an antenna switch in accordance with the bit string, changes a load impedance of an antenna, generates a reflected wave by modulating an unmodulated carrier, which is transmitted to the antenna from the outside and uses the reflected wave to transmit the data to the data reader.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring a perimeter for ingress or egress by a member of an ad hoc wireless network. A wireless device is equipped with location means. In an embodiment, the wireless device is a cellular telephone equipped with a GPS chip set. A plurality of such wireless devices form an ad hoc network and are linked to a server in association with each other. The server receives retains perimeter boundary data and receives positioning information from each of the plurality of associated wireless devices. The locations of each member of a network are tracked relative to perimeter. A perimeter may be an egress perimeter, which defines an area in which monitored units are permitted to roam but from which network members may not leave. A perimeter may be an ingress perimeter, which defines an area in which monitored units are not permitted to enter. An ingress perimeter may reside within an egress perimeter. The system provides warnings when a perimeter boundary is approached or crossed.

The secured wireless handsets described are also applicable to non-vehicular communication sites where wireless handset removal from the communication site is a concern.

    Abstract: A hierarchical cell structure (HCS) cellular communications system includes a macro cell encompassing a smaller micro cell that employ the same frequency band. The macro cell includes a macro cell base station, and the micro cell includes a micro cell base station. An uplink communication cell boundary between the macro cell and the micro cell is established, and a downlink communication cell boundary between the macro cell and the micro cell is established. A radio network controller determines whether a condition exists in the HCS system which indicates that the uplink and downlink micro cell boundaries should be unbalanced. If the condition is met or exists, the power and/or antenna beam tilt of a downlink transmission from the micro cell base station is reduced to unbalance the uplink and downlink micro cell boundaries. Alternatively, the radio network controller may employ an offset value to mathematically reduce mobile detected pilot power levels associated with the micro base station.

The mobile communication terminal in a cell signals a plurality of paging point nodes of mobility and traffic characteristic. Then, the plurality of paging point nodes sets up a location registration area of the mobile communication terminal according to the above mentioned information and network information. Thus, the location management of the mobile communication terminal can be efficiently realized, thereby reducing the traffic.
