The print job forwarding preference options can include options for print job preferences based on printing device capabilities. The method can include receiving print job forwarding preferences at a printing device. The print job forwarding preferences can include at least one mandatory print job preference that specifies a mandatory printing device capability for a specific print job and at least one desirable print job preference that specifies a desirable printing device capability for the specific print job. The method can include determining whether the specific print job requires forwarding from the printing device to another printing device. The method can include forwarding the specific print job for printing if the specific print job requires forwarding.

Abstract: A self-diagnosis function is used to acquire information showing the state of deterioration of a hard disk device, and when the hard disk device is deteriorated, a job is executed under the control which is different from that in the case where the hard disk device is not deteriorated. For example, copying job is executed in the HDD use mode in the case of non-deterioration, and copying job is executed in the HDD non-use mode (an image memory is used) in the case of deterioration. Further, the number of retrials by an alternative sector in the case of occurrence of errors of writing in a hard disk device in the course of job execution is changed according to the state of the deterioration.

Abstract: Personal address books of users are stored in an address server. Each user registers, with the personal address book of his/her own, conditions (transmission conditions) that should be satisfied when other users transmit image data to the user. The conditions are registered in correspondence with addresses of the other users. When one of the other users transmits (as a transmission source) to the user (as a transmission destination) who has set the transmission conditions, from an MFP, the transmission conditions, which were set by the transmission destination user with respect to the transmitter, are downloaded from the address server to the transmission source MFP. Abstract: In an embodiment, a document processing application selects, based on an objective for a print job, one or more document processing devices and/or one or more parameter values for processing the print job. The objective may be selected by a user. Examples of objectives for a print job include fastest time to process the print job, the lowest cost to process the print job, the least amount of labor required to process the print job, the lowest cost of labor required to process the print job, and the highest quality finished product. The print job is sent to a printing device and a finishing device, one or both of which may have been selected, based on the objective, by the application. Any selected parameter values (whether selected by the application, or manually selected) are sent to the appropriate document processing device.

Abstract: A portable terminal apparatus confirms whether it conforms to an image data sending and receiving method to which an image forming apparatus for printing image data can be adapted, and receives data of the printable image format from the image forming apparatus. The portable terminal apparatus displays image identification data for identifying each piece of stored image data, and determines whether each piece of the image data is printable, based on at least one of a result of the confirmation with respect to the sending and receiving method, the image format information, and the image data. Based on a result of the determination, the display is controlled so that the user can distinguish whether each piece of the image data is printable. Abstract: A method for pre-configuring a portable storage device for use in transporting print jobs in a print shop, and a method for using the pre-configured portable storage device to export and import print jobs between different devices in the print shop. The portable storage device is pre-configured to contain multiple root directories uniquely corresponding to multiple print job management programs. A configuration file containing exporting and importing instructions and administrative information is stored in each root directory. When exporting print jobs, the exporting program automatically locates its own unique root directory and exports jobs into that root directory. When importing print jobs, once the operator indicates an exporting program, the importing program searches the root directory for the exporting program for all stored jobs and displays them to the operator for selection.

Abstract: A printing device is provided with an imager to capture an output image of the paper after it is printed on. The output image is compared to an input image representing the image being printed to detect any artifacts in the output image and to determine the type of the artifacts. The types of the artifacts include effects caused by dirty drum, low or missing toner, dirty or wrinkled paper, etc. The printing device performs a responsive action based on the type of artifacts detected, including displaying a diagnostic message, stopping the printing, rejecting the sheet, re-printing, printing subsequent pages with a corrective action, etc. Further, another imager is provided to capture an image of the paper before it is printed on, and the image is analyzed to detect artifacts of the input paper, including dirty or wrinkled paper, wrong paper size, paper skew or misalignment, etc.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for pre-rendering image data for a plurality of scanning paths are described here. The method includes receiving image data including a plurality of scan lines for a top portion of an image page, pre-rendering the data for a first scanning path to generate a first data set, pre-rendering the data for a second scanning path to generate a second data set, determining an initial scanning direction, and selecting the first data set or the second data set responsive to said determining. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

Abstract: In the conventional printing application, it is impossible to easily overview which image is printed in which page, so that there is a drawback that a user is required to perform the printing while imagining printing result. An idea for more quickly providing the printing result at the same time when the printing is performed by simple operation has not been sufficiently made.
