    Abstract: A system is disclosed for producing a colored-motion picture film from a black-and-white source film. Each frame of the black-and-white film is projected as an image onto a work surface to which colors are applied within selected areas for combination with the projected black-and-white image to provide a color composite. The color composite is then photographed with color sensitive film. The black-and-white film is processed frame-by-frame, preserving registration from one frame to the next (in a sequence) with the colored format which is accordingly modified to a limited extent to produce each composite that is photographed.

    Abstract: A gasket structure for supporting thermocouple junctions in a stream of gas passing through an internal combustion engine. The thermocouple leads are passed edgewise through a gasket, which is adapted to fit between the ports of an engine and the manifold associated therewith. The leads are firmly supported within the gasket, the junction formed by the ends thereof protruding into the gasket aperture. The thermocouple junction is thus disposed in the gas stream at a regular, predetermined distance from the combustion chamber of the engine.In one embodiment a plurality of thermocouples are embedded in an exhaust manifold gasket, each being associated with a separate exhaust port of an engine. A selector switch may be used to monitor the status of the gas flow through each port; or the thermocouples may be connected together so that an averaged signal is produced, and the signal utilized to monitor the fuel-air mixture ratio.

    Abstract: A temperature compensation circuit for sensors of physical variables, such as temperature and pressure, employs an effective constant current source that is sensitive to ambient temperature and which has an adjustable thermal slope and an adjustable output at discrete temperatures. The effective constant current source may be connected across the input terminals of a sensor such as a pressure transducer employing strain gages or it may be connected in series with the excitation current of such a transducer. Additionally, the effective constant current source may be connected in the output of a sensor such as a thermocouple that is responsive to temperature changes. When connected to the input of a sensor, the temperature compensation circuit controls the excitation current through the sensor as a function of the ambient temperature of the sensor and compensation circuit.

    Abstract: A disposable fever indicator is provided to determine whether or not a predetermined body temperature has been reached. The indicator comprises a vessel containing therein a movable member and means for exerting a force to move the member from a first position to a second position. The indicator further includes meltable bonding means disposed within the vessel and adapted to overcome the force exerted by the aforementioned means and keep the member in the first position until the predetermined temperature is reached at which time the bonding means melts and allows the member to move to the second position under the action of the force exerting means. The indicator is armed only prior to usage. Prior to arming the device, even if the predetermined temperature is reached or exceeded, the movable member will remain in the first position.

    Abstract: A calibration device is disclosed and claimed herein for determining the accuracy of a tennis racquet stringing machine. A cross member is securable in the machine in similar fashion to a racquet being secured for stringing therein. The cross member has a frame secured thereto and extending outwardly therefrom with the frame having a resistance member, preferably a spring loaded scale, secured thereto. An elongated element such as a nonextensible wire is secured to the resistance member to be pulled in the machine in similar fashion to a racquet string. When the element is pulled, the resistance member is encountered and at the proper time, will determine the pounds of pull on the elongated element. The determined pull can be compared to settings on the stringing machine to determine accuracy thereof for calibration purposes.

    Abstract: A disposable clinical thermometer of low cost and preferably mostly of plastic includes a stiff rod-like inner member having a longitudinal groove of like configuration extending its length. A baffle or lip is formed on one end of this rod to provide a restriction to the flow of fluid to the groove. This rod is inserted into a flexible and transparent tube which is a tight fit on the rod-like member. A plastic, rigid, liquid container forms one end of the thermometer and is bonded to the housing at the end which encloses the restriction on the rod. The other end of the outer housing is tightly closed. A colored fluid having a known expansion with the heating of the fluid is placed in the rigid container. This fluid contains a coloring material which as the colored fluid flows up the groove in the rod causes a color to form in the groove, which color remains even if the thermometer is cooled.

    Abstract: A device for indicating the presence or absence of liquid at a single level in a tank, comprising a sealed cylindrical housing having one end wall permanently fixed and the other end wall removable. The housing has an internal shoulder against which the removable wall is seated. The removable end wall also carries at its outer side two concentric, conductor tubes on feed-through insulators, constituting a probe whose conductive or capacitive characteristics vary according to whether the tubes are submerged or dry.
