  • Patent number: 7199803
Abstract: A method for retrieving an image texture descriptor for describing texture features of an image, including the steps of (a) filtering input images using predetermined filters having different orientation coefficients, (b) projecting the filtered images onto axes of each predetermined direction to obtain data groups consisting of averages of each directional pixel values, (c) selecting candidate data groups among the data groups by a predetermined classification method, (d) determining a plurality of indicators based on orientation coefficients of the filters used in filtering the candidate data groups, and (e) determining the plurality of indicators as the texture descriptor of the image. The texture descriptors which allow kinds of texture structure present in an image to be perceptually captured can be retrieved.

  • Patent number: 7187387
Abstract: In an image-processing employing a dither matrix a basic dither pattern is formed of a set of a plurality of basic patterns each including a plurality of pixels. In a single basic pattern a single pixel is assigned 1 serving as a number indicating an order followed to illuminate a dot in the dither matrix. When basic dither patterns are arranged longitudinally and laterally a location remotest from any pixel assigned a number is selected and a pixel at that location is assigned a subsequent number. This series of operations is repeated. When there is no basic pattern that is not assigned a number, in basic pattern a number indicating an order followed to illuminate a dot is assigned to allow the dither matrix to a dither matrix of dot convergence type. Thus a dither matrix allowing an image processing apparatus to satisfactorily reproduce an image can be created.

  • Patent number: 7176932
Abstract: A method for adjusting attributes of a video signal within a system is disclosed. The system includes a display device and a host. The display device has a first signal attribute specification, and the video signal has a second signal attribute specification. The first step of this method is to output a video signal from the host. The display device responds with a status signal to the host according to the first and the second signal attribute specifications. Afterward, the host can modify the attributes of the video signal according to the status signal.

  • Patent number: 7176939
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for processing video pictures especially for dynamic false contour effect and dithering noise compensation. The main idea of this invention is to divide the picture to be displayed in areas of at least two types, for example low video gradient areas and high video gradient areas, to allocate a different set of GCC (for Gravity Center Coding) code words to each type of area, the set allocated to a type of area being dedicated to reduce false contours and dithering noise in the area of this type, and to encode the video levels of each area of the picture to be displayed with the allocated set of GCC code words. In this manner, the reduction of false contour effects and dithering noise in the picture is optimized area by area.

  • Patent number: 7173630
Abstract: An improved convenience is attained in adding a character or figure to a picture with an improved convenience as follows: When a mode for addition of a character to a picture display area is selected, an attribute processor (101) outputs a plurality of sample characters whose attributes are different from each other, a display control unit (102) displays the plurality of sample characters different in attribute from each other in descending order starting with the most frequently used one in the form of a list in the sample character display area. When a predetermined sample character is selected using a touch pad (6) and a position where a character is actually added in the picture display area is selected, it becomes possible to actually add a character on the basis of the attribute of the selected sample character first at the selected position, and the attribute processor (101) provides such a control as to add a character entered from a keyboard (5) on the basis of the attribute of the sample character.

  • Patent number: 7164418
Abstract: A three-dimensional virtual model is entered that is made up of various components. An attribute definition file is then created that includes an attribute list defining different attributes for component of the three-dimensional virtual model. A rule definition file is further created that defines in advance a conversion rule for converting an attribute value into a display color for each attribute of the components. When the user selects an attribute to be color coded from the attribute list and selects a conversion rule corresponding to the selected attribute, components of the three-dimensional virtual model are displayed with different colors in conformity with the conversion rule selected.

  • Patent number: 7154509
Abstract: An apparatus and method for allowing color adjustments in display devices is disclosed The apparatus comprises a multi-resolution structure for providing color adjustments; and an interpolator for interpolating at least one offset of the multi-resolution structure. An apparatus and method in accordance with the present invention uses a combination of color look-up tables with different levels of resolution, followed by interpolation to provide a display process which has high resolution but utilizes minimal memory. In so doing, memory is used for high-resolution areas only where needed. The multi-resolution structure is a very good approximation to the theoretical mapping table in the areas where it is needed. At the same time, since the high resolution areas are localized, a significant reduction in memory storage is possible.

  • Patent number: 7133048
Abstract: A method constructs a variable multilinear model representing a class of deformable surfaces. First, meshes of deformable surfaces are acquired. The meshes include vertices. The meshes have different identities and different expressions. The meshes can be obtained from images of human faces, where facial features, such as eyes, eyebrows, cheeks, nose, mouth and chin, form the deformable surfaces. The meshes are stored in a memory as elements of a data tensor. The data tensor is selectively flattened to matrices composed of column vectors. An imputative incremental singular value decomposition is applied to each matrix to generate a set of orthogonal bases. Then, the orthogonal bases are applied to the data tensor, via tensor multiplication, to construct a core tensor, which is the variable multilinear model representing the class of surfaces.

  • Patent number: 7102642
Abstract: A system that provides a bimanual user interface in which an input device is provided for each of the users hands, a left hand (LH) device and a right hand (RH) device. The input devices are used in conjunction with a large format, upright, human scale display at which the user can stand and upon which the input devices are moved. The positions of the input devices on the display are marked by displayed cursors. The system detects the position of the input devices relative to the display and draws a vector corresponding to unfastened tape between positions of cursors of the corresponding input devices and pointing from the LH device to the RH device. By changing the state of the LH input device the unfastened tape can be fastened or pinned along the vector as the user moves the LH device toward the RH device. By changing the state of the RH device, the tape can be unfastened by moving the LH device away from the RH device. Straight lines are drawn by holding the RH fixed while the LH pins the tape.
