Patent number: 4280293Abstract: A stationary display member which is mounted on the rotating hub cap of a wheel of a vehicle, such as an automobile, or other rotating member, is provided, which comprises a disc-like member coaxially mounted on the hub cap to be freely rotatable about the axis of rotation of the hub cap. The disc-like member has an internal chamber which is partially filled with a flowable material, such as mercury. The flowable material collects at the bottom of the chamber, and it forms an off-set weight which prevents the disc-like member from turning as the hub cap turns about is axis of rotation. A damping device is included in the chamber which coacts with the flowable material, and which damps out any tendency for the disc-like member to oscillate about the axis of rotation of the hub cap. An appropriate insignia, design, message, or other inscription, is imprinted or attached to the outer face of the disc-like member and which remains stationary as the hub cap rotates.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 1979Date of Patent: July 28, 1981Inventors: Eugene N. Kovalenko, John G. Bowen

Patent number: 4272900Abstract: An identity band which comprises an elongate strap and a latch portion which forms a slot through which the strap is pushed to form the band into a loop. The strap has a series of apertures therein providing a series of transverse stop surfaces alternating with a series of transverse camming surfaces. Within the slot there is a latching element. As the strap is pushed through the slot to form the loop, the camming surfaces in turn cam the latching element out of the path of the strap to permit passage thereof through the slot. The stop surfaces are arranged so that, if an attempt is made to pull the strap in the opposite direction through the slot, one of them engages with the latching element to prevent such movement of the strap. Both the stop surfaces and the camming surfaces meet the upper and lower faces of the strap portion at angles other than right angles. The latch element is wedge-like and mounted at its thicker end.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1979Date of Patent: June 16, 1981Assignee: Promex Plastics (Proprietary) LimitedInventors: Bernard G. Patent number: 4268984Abstract: A rectangular sign frame assembly presenting opposing side walls having undercut lips at their upper edges, which receive corresponding edges of a deflectable elastic sign to hold the latter in assembled relation to the frame. The sign may be removed by bowing the same further inwardly to expose a hidden recess into which a tool can be inserted for prying the sign loose. The sign assemblies may also have a deflection inhibitor which limits such further inward deflection of the sign, preventing removal by unauthorized persons and which may be moved into a position allowing such deflection and removal of said sign.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1979Date of Patent: May 26, 1981Inventor: Warren A. Patent number: 4265039Abstract: A fabric is stretched across a sign framework to serve as a display face. Forming the framework are upper, lower and respective side support elements. Depending upon the particular version, a hinge or saddle is affixed to one or more of the support elements. A hinge pin tensioner has limited rotation and is coupled to a marginal portion of the farbric. In some versions, such hinge assemblies are included along more than one side of the framework. In others, different fasteners are employed along some of the support elements. In one particular approach, the fabric is stretched directly across a separate frame that, in turn, is hinged along a support element of the main framework, so that the frame may be swung away for the purpose of obtaining access to the interior of the main framework that usually encloses a source of illumination.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1979Date of Patent: May 5, 1981Assignee: ABC Extrusion CompanyInventor: Jackson R. Patent number: 4261126Abstract: A segment display wherein each segment is selectively energized to display, respectively, all numerals of the Arabian writing as distinguished from "arabic numbers". The segment display uses only seven or fewer segments for displaying all numbers by employing common use of segments for different numbers. The seven segment display readily adapts the display system to existing drive circuitry now used with seven segment displays for arabic numerals. The seven segment display enables the use of standard drive circuitry for control.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1979Date of Patent: April 14, 1981Inventor: Krikor A. Bezjian

Patent number: 4259800Abstract: A display apparatus is provided comprising a plurality of spaced lights with reflectors operatively associated with the lights which are isolated from one another. A circuit is provided for actuating the lights for selected periods of time to create an appearance of sequencing. Shaped lenses having the form of alphabetic characters or the like are associated with the lights and are illuminated thereby to achieve a desired effect. The reflectors and seperators associated therewith are connected together in a monolithic structure. The reflectors are asymmetrically formed in the case of asymmetrically shaped alphabetic characters in order to direct the light most appropriately through the shaped lenses. Sequencing is provided by the use of a binary counter, the output of which selectively actuates the lights.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1979Date of Patent: April 7, 1981Inventor: Alexander Schoenfeld
