Abstract: In one aspect, the invention is directed to polypeptides having an amylase and/or glucoamylase activity, polynucleotides encoding the polypeptides, and methods for making and using these polynucleotides and polypeptides. In one aspect, the polypeptides of the invention can be used as amylases, for example, alpha amylases, to catalyze the hydrolysis of polysaccharide, oligosaccharide or starch into sugars. In one aspect, the invention provides delayed release compositions comprising an desired ingredient coated by a latex polymer coating. In alternative embodiments, enzymes are used to make biofuels, e.g., ethanol, butanol, propanol, or a gasoline-ethanol mix, including a bioethanol, biopropanol, biobutanol, or a biodiesel, or for any form of fuel or biomass processing.

Abstract: Compositions and methods for efficiently producing and delivering double stranded RNA (dsRNA) are provided. Vector constructs useful for in vitro and in vivo expression of dsRNA are described. Also described are cell expression systems for efficient and cost-effective production of dsRNA in living cells and methods and compositions for providing the expressed dsRNA to target organisms. The described compositions and methods can be used to produce RNA molecules for screening or other uses, and to amplify RNA sequences for analysis.

Abstract: A phytase having improved thermostability is disclosed. The phytase has a modified amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2, wherein the modification is one of mutations A to D. The mutation A is to substitute amino acids at positions 143 and 262 with cysteine, the mutation B is to substitute amino acids at positions 259 and 312 with cysteine, the mutation C is to substitute amino acids at positions 205 and 257 with cysteine, and the mutation D is to substitute amino acids at positions 264 and 309 with cysteine.
