  • Patent number: 7164915
Abstract: In triggering a handoff by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) from a current basic service set (BSS) in a wireless local area network (WLAN), the following are performed. A highest class of traffic service and quality of service (QoS) is determined for the highest class from a basic service set (BSS) beacon. Handoff is terminated and communication is retained with a current BSS when the signal to noise ratio (SNR) or received signal strength (RSS) is greater than a high threshold of the highest class. Other criteria is evaluated to determine whether a handoff is desired when the SNR or RSS is less than the high threshold.

  • Patent number: 7146168
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for providing a downlink connection in a cellular network. A feedback information indicating a selected cell is transmitted to a central network element (20) controlling at least two network elements (N1–N3) serving cells (C1–C3) of the cellular network. The at least two network elements are controlled by the central network element based on the feedback information so as to establish the downlink connection. Thus, the downlink transmissions of the non-central network elements (N1–N3) are controlled by the network so as to decrease performance loss due to reception errors of the feedback information. The feedback information may be a temporary ID obtained in a site selection diversity transmission control scheme.

  • Patent number: 7142859
Abstract: In a mobile communication network comprised of a plurality of switching devices and a plurality of base stations connected to the switching devices, while a mobile terminal to wirelessly communicate with the base stations is in a communication by a soft handover, a terminal endpoint of a protocol for control of the soft handover is relocated in changing a switching device to another as a branch/combining point of data on a communication route of the communication.

  • Patent number: 7116983
Abstract: A timeslot selection method is provided. The timeslot selection method includes the steps of: obtaining a propagation loss; receiving an occupation state and an interference amount of an uplink timeslot; obtaining a desired wave power from the propagation loss; obtaining a ratio between the desired wave power and the propagation loss for the uplink timeslot in which the occupation state is idle; and selecting the transmitting timeslot by using the ratio. In addition, a timeslot assignment method in which there are a plurality of TDD boundaries each of which is a boundary between at least an uplink timeslot and at least a downlink timeslot in a frame is provided. Furthermore, a timeslot assignment method is provided, in which assignment is carried out according to a service class included in a QoS request.

  • Patent number: 7085561
Abstract: An embedded method for analyzing RF channel communication link parameters can include inserting data having a predetermined pattern to a transmission at a transmitter, processing the data through a waveform processor, transmitting the data across a communications link at traffic rates, receiving the transmitted data at a receiver, and determining a RF channel bit error rate of the transmitted data at the receiver. The transmitted data can include embedded synchronization and operating mode patterns such that the receiver can distinguish the transmitted data from contemporaneous voice or other data transmissions. A method for tracking received bits and counting received errors can include providing received bits to a decryption process, and providing test bits to an error analysis application to determine a total number of received errors.

  • Patent number: 7050841
Abstract: A form-fitted protective enclosure with shock-resistant features to protect an inserted hand-held electronic device that both stores and plays digital audio recordings. The enclosure protects the inserted hand-held electronic device from impacts, wear and tear, inadvertent dropping due to protruding ribs that afford a sure grip along with other protection features, and rear surface slot openings for interweaving a belt or strap. The protective enclosure provides openings for easy access to the electronic device's visual display screen and to the electronic device's controls. The protective enclosure's rectangular visual display screen opening has a protruding frame with the same depth as the protruding ribs for extra protection of the electronic device's visual display when the enclosed electronic device is laid down on a flat surface.
