  • Patent number: 8647035
Abstract: A nut plate assembly includes a nut retainer and a bushing for expanding a tubular body of the retainer. The retainer assembly is used to cold work an opening of a workpiece in order to fix the nut retainer assembly relative to the workpiece. A nut can be snapped into the retainer. A method of installation includes passing a mandrel through the bushing to radially expand the bushing into a tubular body of the retainer. The tubular body is compressed between the workpiece and bushing as the bushing is displaced radially causing corresponding radial displacement of the tubular body. The expanded bushing applies pressure to the tubular body for a desired fit between the nut retainer and workpiece.

  • Patent number: 8628285
Abstract: A retaining nut comprises a nut body and a plurality of axially extending integrally formed deflectable locking fingers. The locking fingers have a frusto-conical surface opposite a threaded surface. The frusto-conical surface of the locking fingers are adapted to co-operate with a conical washer. Tightening the threaded nut on a threaded shaft against the washer causes the locking fingers to deflect radially towards the shaft. This provides a secure radial clamping of the nut on the shaft.

  • Patent number: 8596941
Abstract: Systems, apparatus and methods for an accessory retaining device are described. According to various embodiments, a handle, shaft and flange are configured to provide a rotational interface. With the assistance of threading between the shaft and the handle or other components, rotation of the handle causes axial movement of the shaft and compression of a grommet located about the shaft or flange. Compression of the grommet results in radial expansion. In this way, the accessory retaining device is adapted to secure an accessory to a mounting aperture located on a vehicle or other device when the handle is in a closed position. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 8585335
Abstract: An anchor bolt installation system comprised of a single-use capsule containing a mono-component anchoring substance for anchoring fastening articles to walls or similar structures. The present invention generally includes an open-ended capsule containing a plurality of apertures formed in an outer wall thereof. A mono-component anchoring substance is placed within a cavity in the capsule. A sleeve is positioned around the capsule and a cap is positioned to cover the opening of the capsule to prevent premature hardening of the anchoring substance. A guide member may be positioned within the opening of the capsule to guide and center a fastener being inserted therein. After removing the outer sleeve and cap, the capsule may be placed within a borehole. A fastener may then be inserted within the capsule, causing the anchoring substance to be excreted through the apertures of the capsule to firmly secure the capsule and bolt within the wall.

  • Patent number: 8585337
Abstract: A mechanism for attaching a structure to a relatively flat panel includes a housing containing an outer button which contains an inner button. Displacement of the inner button into the outer button causes a moveable attachment portion to partially collapse toward a centerline which permits the moveable attachment portion to pass through an engagement aperture in the panel. Movement of the outer button into the housing permits the moveable engagement portion to extend past a back surface of the panel to engage the back surface and hold the attaching structure to the panel via forces exerted by biasing members once the buttons are released.

  • Patent number: 8573911
Abstract: One or more fastenings can be used to fasten components together, such as housing components on a computing device. Each fastening can include a first opening associated with a first component, a second opening associated with a second component, a floating fastener, and a screw. The floating fastener is inserted into the first opening and/or second opening, and includes a threaded opening therein having a primary axis therethrough. The screw is inserted through first and/or second openings and into the threaded opening in the floating fastener. The screw and threaded opening combination is defined by contact between the screw and threaded opening about a thread surface that is substantially perpendicular to the primary axis, a screw thread return angle of 45 degrees or less, and a thread depth that is less than about triple the float between the major diameters of the screw and the threaded opening.

  • Patent number: 8568074
Abstract: A two-part device arranged for threaded assembly comprising a first part having a first threaded section provided on an external generally cylindrical surface and a second part having a second threaded section arranged for threaded engagement with the first threaded section and provided on an internal generally cylindrical surface. A locking opening is provided on the first or second part and a corresponding locking protrusion is provided on the other of the first or second part. When the first and second parts are threaded together by means of the first and second threaded sections, the locking opening and locking protrusion are drawn closer together and upon reaching a threshold the locking protrusion engages with the locking opening.
