  • Patent number: 5944361
Abstract: A secondary containment system is provided for use in preventing leakage to or from an underground storage tank at a joint where a riser line connects to the tank. The system includes a secondary riser tube for surrounding the riser line and a sealing ring for providing a seal between the outer wall of the storage tank and the secondary riser tube. The sealing ring has a sleeve for sealing against the outer wall of the secondary sealing tube and a flexible bell-shaped skirt for sealing against the outer wall of the storage tank. A support bracket clamps to the outer wall of the riser line and includes three arms extending radially outward. The three arms engage the secondary riser tube to hold it into engagement with the sealing ring and thereby hold the sealing ring in sealing engagement with the tank wall by maintaining a downward force on the secondary riser tube.

  • Patent number: 5941536
Abstract: An elastomer seal member for use in a pump having adjustable side liners is structured with a bellows-type flange which provides and maintains a tight seal between adjoining casing elements of the pump as the side liners are axially adjusted to compensate for wear and abrasion of the side liners. The elastomer seal member provides a continuous seal between adjoining casing elements as the side liners are axially adjusted, thereby extending the service life of the side liners and extending the number of hours the pump may be operated before a replacement of the side liners and seal is required.

  • Patent number: 5938205
Abstract: A dual cartridge seal includes first and second rotary seals each formed by a stationary sealing ring and a rotatable sealing ring and a sleeve, fitted to be co-rotatable with a rotatable shaft to be sealed. The rotatable sealing rings are mounted on the sleeve. The stationary sealing rings are mounted so as to be radially spaced from the sleeve so that the stationary sealing rings and a portion of the sleeve define a barrier fluid chamber. The barrier fluid chamber has an inner wall defined by the portion of the sleeve, and an outer wall defined by the inner surface of the stationary sealing rings or ring holders. In order to promote barrier fluid circulation within the barrier fluid chamber, and thereby to more effectively remove heat from the regions of the rotary seals, the inner wall and the outer radial wall are oriented so that at least one of those walls is non-parallel to the rotational axis of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5934712
Abstract: A double containment coupling is used to form a mechanical joint between double containment pipes. The coupling has an inner primary member within an outer secondary member. Two seals, one on top of the other, are fitted on top of the primary pipe which extends beyond the secondary pipe of the double containment pipe. The coupling inner member is fitted over the primary pipe and seals. An inner locking nut is threaded on the coupling inner member outer surface pushing a thrust ring onto one of the seals, sliding the seal over the other seal compressing and energizing both seals so as to create a seal between the primary pipe and the coupling inner member. A first end of a closure member is threaded onto the outer surface of the coupling outer member. An outer locking nut threaded on a second end of the closure member compresses a seal between the closure member and the secondary pipe creating a seal between the closure member and the secondary pipe outer surface.

  • Patent number: 5924701
Abstract: A dual purpose, multi-layered steel intake/exhaust manifold gasket is constructed from a rubber coated embossed single-layer intake manifold gasket attached to an uncoated embossed double-layer exhaust manifold gasket. The gaskets overlap at several discontinuous locations along a common edge by sandwiching the single layer intake manifold gasket between the two layers of the exhaust manifold gasket. Holes are provided in the rubber coated single layer at some of the overlapping locations to allow the two layers of the exhaust manifold gaskets to contact and be fastened together. An air gap is left between the two gaskets except for the areas of overlap to control heat transfer between the gaskets.

  • Patent number: 5924742
Abstract: A valve having a purging apparatus includes a valve body having a defined passage that is aligned along an axis of the valve body. A conduit having an axis passing downwardly through the valve body and in communication with the passage forms an angle with the axis of the valve body. A slit is formed in the valve body about the axis of the conduit to establish a housing integral with the valve body. The slit surrounds and isolates the housing and a portion of the conduit from the valve body to a given depth and includes a depth and a width such that the housing is isolated from stresses induced in the valve body. A tubular element is joined to the housing in axial alignment with the conduit and is inserted to a depth that is less than the given depth of the slit. The valve is purged through the tubular element via the conduit.
