  • Patent number: 5791125
Abstract: A rotary heat sealer and method therefor useable for thermally sealing overlapping film layers wrapped about a load at a load wrapping station. The rotary heat sealer includes a plurality of heat sealing disks each having a peripherally disposed heating element, and a rotatable shaft disposed through a central opening of the plurality of heat sealing disks, wherein the heat sealing disks are resiliently coupled to the rotatable shaft by spring members so that the heat sealing disks are rotatable with the shaft and the heat sealing disks are independently movable transversely relative to the rotatable shaft axis. The rotary heat sealer is movable toward the load to engage the heating elements thereof with overlapping film layers wrapped about the load to thermally seal an overlapping film tail to underlying film layers, whereby the transversely movable heat sealing disks compensate for variations in the shape of the load, thereby providing improved welding of overlapping film layers.

  • Patent number: 5787687
Abstract: A filling system of a container filling apparatus is configured for selectively, vertically moving an associated container positioned on a conveyor. The apparatus includes a food pump, and a container support platform operatively associated with the conveyor. The support platform is adapted to engage and support the container. A servo-controlled drive motor is configured to move each container positioned on the conveyor, in a controlled, generally vertical direction, perpendicular to the conveying path, toward and away from the food pump. A control system is operatively connected to the motor for providing controlled, programmable movement of the drive motor. Upon commencement of filling of the container with food product, the control means generates and transmits a signal to the motor to selectively position the container in proximity to the food pump and to move the container away from the food pump during filling, in a controlled manner, perpendicular to the conveying path.

  • Patent number: 5787689
Abstract: A bag discharge constriction apparatus and method are disclosed in which the extent to which an opening in a bag is constricted is adjustably varied to control the discharge of material from the bag. The apparatus has a first control bar and a second control bar, each defining at least one angular relationship in a corresponding plane. Also disclosed is a means for moving at least one control bar in its associated plane toward and away from the other control bar. The control bars are disposed in opposing configuration such that the combination of the angular relationships forms a predetermined confined shape between the control bars. It is into this predetermined confined shape that the neck of the bag to be constricted is placed and the bars are then moved toward or away from each other to constrict or open the neck of the bag.

  • Patent number: 5787690
Abstract: A residual product removing apparatus which can prevent a liquid food (12) from flowing out even when a seal portion (S) is cut at its center. A pair of cutting rails (31, 32) are disposed in a cutting jaw (15a), and a cutter (21) is disposed in a clearance (33) formed between the cutting rails (31, 32) to be movable in advancing and retracting directions. A packaging material is cut at opposing portions (11a, 11b) when the cutter (21) is advanced. Dollies (31a, 32a) are disposed along the cutting rails (31, 32). A pair of heating bodies are disposed in a heat sealing jaw (15b) so as to squeeze and seal the opposing portions (11a, 11b) of the packaging material in cooperation with the dollies (31a, 32a). A groove (38) is formed between the heating bodies. The tip of the cutter (21) enters the groove (38) when the cutter (21) is advanced, and the tip of the cutter (21) presses the packaging material when the cutter (21) is located at its retracted position.

  • Patent number: 5787681
Abstract: A sealing condition monitoring apparatus detects in a real-time manner a defect in of sealing due to entry of foreign matter or due to a defect or malfunction of components of a sealing apparatus. There are provided a counter bar disposed at the forward end of a counter jaw for sealing a packaging container into which a liquid food is charged, and a sealing bar disposed at the forward end of a heat sealing jaw to face the counter bar. A packaging material is held between the sealing bar and the counter bar, and a pressing force is applied thereto for sealing. A sheet-shaped pressure sensor is provided on the surface of the counter bar for detecting the pressing force applied to the packaging material at each detection point. Also, there is provided a controller which compares data of the pressing force detected by the sheet-shaped pressure sensor and master data which are previously set to correspond to a pressing force for obtaining proper sealing conditions.

  • Patent number: 5778638
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for preserving solder paste which comprises housing solder paste in a vessel which is substantially free from oxygen and moisture and is imparted with gas barrier properties. The process is preferably carried out by housing the solder paste together with an oxygen absorbent not requiring moisture for absorbing oxygen (e.g. unsaturated fatty acid compound and chain hydrocarbon polymer having unsaturated groups) and optionally a dehumidifying agent and/or an acidic gas absorbent in the above vessel and subsequently hermetically sealing said vessel. The process makes it possible to prevent the deterioration of the solder paste such as viscosity change of the solder and the formation of solder balls which affect the printability and solder reflowability, to preserve the solder paste at room temperature and to remarkably prolong its service term.
