  • Patent number: 4704816
Abstract: Readily erectable, operationally reliable, and nestably transportable ice fishing tip-up apparatus includes three structurally interchangeable and uniquely apertured channel members alternatively designatable as alpha-member, beta-member, and gamma-member. The alpha-member and beta-member are adjustably pivotably joined in parallel horizontal planes, and the gamma-member is pivotably joined in an angularly inclinable relationship to the beta-member. An omega-shaped prop member, which is pivotably attached to the beta-member, can engage an underlying stop member of the inclined gamma-member. A fishing line reel is attached in flanking relationship to the gamma-member with an axle that can also function as the stop member. An elongate lever, which medially surrounds a fulcrum terminus of the gamma-member, includes a relatively shorter and slidably weighted leadward-arm that abruptly falls whenever a fish is caught at the fishing line.

  • Patent number: 4702031
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a visual bite indication comprise a weighted mass having an opening through which a fishing line is loosely threaded so that the weighted mass is suspended upon the line and causes the line to sag when the line is extended for fishing so that tension produced in the line by a bite causes the weighted mass to move as a visual bite indicator. The weighted mass is adapted for being secured to an adjacent eyelet during casting to prevent the weighted mass from interfering with forward passage of the line from the reel. Preferably, the weighted mass and one eyelet are magnetically attractive to each other, the one eyelet either being a fixed portion or adapted for attachment to a pre-existing rod. Multiple embodiments of the adjacent eyelet are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4697373
Abstract: An improved, high catch yield pull-behind net assembly particularly designed for shrimping and fishing operations in shallow coastal grass flats is provided which actually causes aquatic life to move upwardly into the net, is completely harmless to the ecology of the grass flats, and can be unloaded on the go without interrupting the fishing and shrimping. In preferred forms, the net assembly includes an upright, inclined, elongated mouth, a trailing net secured to the mouth, and a vibratory, multiple-bar elongated roller mechanism located adjacent the underside of the net mouth for supporting the overall assembly; the roller mechanism repeatedly strikes the bottom in advance of the net mouth, causing bottom-congregating aquatic life (e.g., shrimp and flounder) to move upwardly and pass into and through the net. The net mouth is also provided with a plurality of spaced, depending, spring steel rods which effectively "comb" the grass as the net is advanced to ensure maximum catches.
