  • Patent number: 10595251
Abstract: A base station in a first wireless network provides first wireless connectivity to user equipment operated by a subscriber. The first wireless network supports first wireless communications such as non-voice communications. A network management resource receives configuration information assigned to the subscriber operating the user equipment. The configuration information indicates that the subscriber is assigned use of a second wireless network that provides support of second wireless communications (such as voice communications). In response to detecting a trigger event (such as a voice call) indicating a need to switch to use of the second wireless network, the network management resource initiates termination of the first wireless connectivity and establishment of second wireless connectivity between the user equipment and a base station in the second wireless network.

  • Patent number: 10587749
Abstract: An enhancement content asset is received at a user device for presentation along with an incoming communication alert for a communication. The communication is initiated on a caller user device and routed to the user device via a wireless carrier network. A determination is made as to whether the enhancement content asset is to be suppressed from presentation on a user interface of the user device based on a configuration rule in a configuration data store of the user device. The enhancement content asset is not presented on the user interface in response to the configuration rule indicating that the enhancement content asset is to be suppressed from presentation on the user interface. Conversely, the enhancement content asset is presented along with the incoming communication alert on the user interface of the user device in response to the configuration rule indicating the enhancement content asset is permitted to be presented.

  • Patent number: 10575147
Abstract: A system and method for controlling a mobile device at a headend includes the mobile device communicating a request for content to the headend. The headend requests geographic coordinate location data from the mobile device and, when geographic coordinate data is available, determines a first geographic region associated with the mobile device in response to the geographic coordinate location data. When geographic coordinate data is not available from the mobile device, the headend extracts an IP address from the request and determines a second geographic region based on the IP address and a confidence level. When the confidence level is below a threshold, the headend determines a third geographic region based on subscriber data for the mobile device. The headend controls the mobile device in response to one of the first geographic region, the second geographic region and the third geographic region.

  • Patent number: 10567052
Abstract: Using High-beam and low-beam transmission signals that have different antenna tilts, different beam-widths, and different polarizations than one another may provide performance advantages in wireless networks. The high-beam transmission signal and the low-beam transmission signal may have orthogonal polarizations. For example, the high-beam transmission signal and the low-beam transmission signal may be linearly polarized signals having different electromagnetic field (E-field) polarization angles with respect to the y-axis, e.g., +/?forty-five degrees with respect to a vertically polarized wave. As another example, the high-beam transmission signal may be a vertically polarized signal, and the low-beam transmission signal may be a horizontally polarized signal, or vice-versa. In addition to having orthogonal polarizations, the low-beam transmission signal may have a greater antenna beam down-tilt angle, and a wider beam-width than the high-beam transmission signal.

  • Patent number: 10560846
Abstract: An unlicensed wireless spectrum access point control circuit receives a first identifier from a first network entity and also receives a second identifier from a second network entity and then compares the late the first identifier to the second identifier to thereby authenticate the second network entity. By one approach the first and second identifier are medium access control (MAC) addresses. By one approach the first network entity comprises an Evolved Node-B base station in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) Radio Access Network and the second network entity comprises a portable wireless device. Upon authenticating the second network entity, the control circuit can then allow user plane data traffic.

  • Patent number: 10511626
Abstract: A method and associated circuits protect data stored in a secure data circuit of a telecommunication device equipped with a near-field communication (NFC) router, a microcontroller, and the secure data circuit. In the method, each message received with the NFC router is parsed to retrieve a communication pipe identifier and an instruction code. The communication pipe identifier and the instruction code are compared to corresponding information in a filter table. Instruction codes of particular messages that attempt to modify a communication pipe by reassigning one end of the communication pipe from the port of the NFC router to a different circuit are acted upon. These messages are blocked from reaching the secure data circuit when the instruction code is not authorized in the filter table, and these messages are permitted when the instruction code is authorized in the filter table.
