Abstract: A method of reconfiguring a network including a plurality of sub-networks in which at least one slave terminal is wireless-linked with a master terminal is disclosed. Firstly, each terminal detects a wireless-linkable node. Secondly, detection information including the results of the detections in the terminals is generated. Thirdly, with reference to the generated detection information, a master terminal is selected in such a manner as to minimize the total number of the master terminals. Finally, a sub-network including the selected master terminal is constructed.

Abstract: A method and system for network management and service provisioning for broadband wireless networks. The method and system employ a network management system (NMS) to manage nodes corresponding to base stations (BS) and subscriber stations (SS). A service flow database is used to store data relating to pre-provisioned dynamic service flows for subscribers having service agreements with a service provider for the broadband wireless network. Management Information Bases (MIBs) are hosted by the various BSs in the network, along with the SSs. The MIBs contain tabulated data that is used to define and provision dynamic service flows. The MIBs are structured to enable management of the MIBs via Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) messaging and SNMP agents operating on the SNMP managed nodes for the BSs and SSs.
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for enhancing reception of wireless communication signals. A beam pattern including at least one set of beams is generated. Where the beam pattern includes at least two sets of beams, the beam sets may be offset with respect to each other and alternated to enhance reception. Beams may be selected for data processing based on a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and may be maximal-ratio combined where signals from a single WTRU are detected within more than one beam and are used for data processing.

Abstract: A subscriber unit (100) determines that there is information to transmit, and requests an amount of bandwidth. Upon receipt of the request for bandwidth from the subscriber unit, the fixed network equipment (FNE; 102) determines whether the requested bandwidth is available. If yes, the FNE dynamically determines at least a first timer value to be used by the subscriber unit to detect a loss of granted bandwidth, and transmits a reservation grant to the subscriber unit granting the request. The reservation grant comprises the at least first timer value. Upon receipt of the reservation grant, the subscriber unit extracts the at least first timer value from the reservation grant and uses the at least first timer value to detect loss of granted bandwidth.

Abstract: A communication system and mobile communication station used in a communication system with low installation cost and no base station. The communication system performs radio communication by communicating a packet among numerous mobile communication stations in an expandable way by providing a relay function in a portable mobile communication station. Each mobile communication station comprises a packet reception means, a packet judging means for judging if the received packet is the self relative address or not, a relay means for transmitting the received packet when the received packet is not the self relative address, a means for generating packets, and a means for transmitting the generated packet. The packet relay means transmits the received packet in a random timing.
Abstract: An optical subscriber system according to the present invention has an adaptive antenna having a plurality of antenna elements, for controlling the weighting on the antenna elements thereby to radiate beams that are adapted to radio wave environments, a position estimator for estimating the position of a mobile unit, a beam combiner for weighting signals received from the mobile unit by the antenna elements and combining beams, and a weighting coefficient generator for correcting weighting coefficients adapted to radio wave environments, which give initial weights as weights to form nulls in bearings other than the mobile unit based on the position of the mobile unit which has been estimated by the position estimator, for thereby reducing a time required for convergence.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing consistency in Short Message Service (SMS) timestamp formatting (UTC or non-UTC) for mobile communication devices are disclosed. In one illustrative example, a method involves receiving an SMS message intended for a mobile communication device; identifying whether the SMS message has timestamp data formatted in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) format or non-UTC format; converting the timestamp data from the UTC format to a non-UTC time format based on an identification that the SMS message has timestamp data formatted in the UTC format; failing to convert the timestamp data to a non-UTC time format based on an identification that the SMS message has timestamp data in the non-UTC format; and causing the SMS message to be sent to the mobile communication device.

Abstract: An improved mobile communication terminal (100) is obtained, which is easy to operate while protecting the main display (102) when not in use. This is realized in the invention by letting the display body part, i.e. the first body part (101), to be located within the main body part, i.e. the second body part (103), while in a first relative position, i.e. a closed state. This significantly reduces the risk of having the display (102) being subjected to dust and scratches. When the mobile communication terminal is in the open state, i.e. the second relative position, the display (102) is fully visible to provide a rich user interface.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for synchronizing Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) communication within a multi-mode radio. A multi-mode radio can support communication with a WLAN and at least one other wireless communication system. The multiple systems can be distinct and asynchronous. Transmitting, or attempting to transmit, over a WLAN communication link can result in interference that degrades the sensitivity of a receiver in another communication system, or that interferes with a transmission in another communication system. The WLAN transmissions can be synchronized to operation in another communication system by generating a signal that can be coupled to a collision avoidance system in the WLAN transmitter. The signal can operate to cause the WLAN transmitter to reschedule the transmission to another time such that the resources of the multi-mode radio are conserved and the WLAN interference is minimized.
Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include a method for analyzing the performance of a wireless communications network and adjusting parameters in the wireless communications network. In one embodiment, the specific location of a mobile unit is linked with performance data obtained from the mobile unit. In another embodiment, specific mobile units are queried, by, e.g. a network switch, to provide specific performance data. The mobile units respond by sending the performance data and location data to the switch. The performance data and location data are linked. The linked performance data and location data are processed and analyzed to give an accurate representation of network performance from the subscriber's point of view. In one embodiment, E911 technology is used to provide location data.
Abstract: A system and method are provided for organizing field upgradeable system software in a wireless communications device. The software is organized into a first plurality of symbol libraries or code sections. Contiguously addressed memory blocks store the symbol libraries or code sections. The start addresses of code sections or symbol libraries are stored in a code section address table cross-referencing code section identifiers with corresponding start addresses. Each symbol is offset from its respective code section start address. Symbol identifiers are cross-referenced with corresponding offset addresses, and corresponding code section identifiers in a symbol offset address table. A symbol accessor code is used to identify symbol addresses using the code section address table and the symbol offset address table.
