  • Patent number: 4213582
Abstract: A winding device comprised of parallel spaced supporting bodies on which an elongated flexible material is helically wound in a single layer. The bodies are interconnected by a folding mechanism, whereby the bodies can be axially displaced to reduce the distance therebetween and thereby reduce the length of one axis of the wound material while retaining the length of the other axis to permit transportation thereof in appropriately sized containers.

  • Patent number: 4213583
Abstract: A tape transport control system suitable for use in tape recording apparatus which utilizes supply and take-up reels onto which the tape is wound. The control system is coupled to both the supply and take-up reels so as to generate detection signals which represents the rotation of the reels. The circuitry utilizes the detection signals to determine the point at which each of the reels in nearing its end, and sends a control signal to the tape transport circuitry to stop the rotation of the reels.

  • Patent number: 4213575
Abstract: In a conventional ribbon supply spool structure which comprises a supply of ribbon wound on a hub rotatable about and axially movable with respect to a hub receiving member on which the hub is seated and which is coaxial with respect to the hub, an improved end of ribbon detection device is provided by the combination of deflectable spring means within the spool hub which exert a force when deflected having a first force component acting against but restrained by wound ribbon on the hub and a second component acting along the hub axis. A spring tensioned member exerts a force along the hub axis which opposes the component of force of the deflectable spring along the hub axis. In this manner, the deflectable spring and the spring tensioned member are maintained in static equilibrium at a selected point along said axis so long as the deflectable spring is restrained by a predetermined minimum of ribbon remaining wound on the hub.

  • Patent number: 4212438
Abstract: A bidirectional tape transport for tapes stored in cassettes providing fast forward and fast rewind functions. Fast forward and rewind are achieved by actuating controls which increase the motor speed and also release the tape from a capstan drive and the playback and recording head so that it may move freely at the fast speed. For fast rewind, the polarity of the supply voltage to the motor is reversed and those components of the bidirectional drive and the drive train to the reel spindles are reversed in such a way as to drive the supply spindle. Such operations are achieved by energizing a single solenoid by means of an electrical pulse produced by a switch actuated by the fast rewind control. The switch is so positioned that it will be actuated once during the advance stroke as the fast rewind control is pressed and once in the return stroke of the control.

  • Patent number: 4211372
Abstract: A fork accessory for winding spaghetti on a fork comprising a generally rectangular base having a thickened portion at one edge defining a cylindrical recess and including clamping means to detachably secure said base to a dish on which the spaghetti is served. A collar is fitted with inwardly projecting pins which is rotatably supported in the well of said recess. A short shaft passes through the base and connects the bottom of the collar to a hand wheel below the collar and well. A fork, which is filled with spaghetti, is inserted into the collar, the hand wheel rotated, and the pins rotate the fork. A guiding wall vertically projecting from a center edge of the collar serves to neatly wrap the spaghetti around the fork which now needs only to be lifted to the mouth for eating.

  • Patent number: 4210072
Abstract: An apparatus for heating or cooking food is described which comprises a plate forming the hot horizontal surface on which the food to be cooked is placed, at least a heating source underlying the plate, a cover above said plate, which defines a mainly closed space. The metal plate has high thermal conductivity. Preferably, the plate has a raised edge effective to circumscribe and define a space for locating and containing the food. The plate may be inverted and the apparatus may be used as an open grill. In this arrangement heat is transmitted by conduction. The plate is provided with essentially vertically extending passages located, in the perimetral parts of the plate, in section in vertical planes, in such a way that the lower mouth or inlet of said passages fully communicates with the space underlying the plate so that active circulation of superheated air is established between the space underlying the plate and the space above the plate and defined in the inside of said cover.

  • Patent number: 4210296
Abstract: Cartridges housing ribbon spools with a length of ribbon extending externally of the cartridge between exit and inlet openings in the cartridge are provided with an integral anti spool rotation device to prevent spool rotation as would allow inadvertent or accidental withdrawal of an undue length of ribbon externally of the cartridge. Incident to mounting the cartridge on a machine, the locking device is moved to a spool release position without detachment or separation from the cartridge for later movement to anti rotation position if removal of an unspent cartridge is required.

  • Patent number: 4209144
Abstract: A tape cartridge of the floating roller type, wherein a drive belt is utilized which is thin enough and of a material stiff enough in compression, as compared to the tape rolls, that much of the deformation required to produce tape tension occurs by reason of compression of the tape rolls at the point of contact with the floating roller. The drive belt can lie in a groove of the floating roller, so that the floating roller presses directly on the tape rolls.

  • Patent number: 4208022
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a twin reel beltwinder which is designed to support an indeterminate length of conveyor belt for transportation within a mine cavity. The present invention includes a frame structure rotatably mounted on four wheels and including a framework for supporting a roll of conveyor belt. The entire roll of conveyor belt is initially positioned on one arm of the support structure. Subsequently, a portion of the conveyor belt is unreeled onto the second arm of the support structure. By equally distributing the conveyor belt between the first arm and the second arm of the support structure, the overall height of the apparatus is low enough to be accommodated within a mine cavity.

  • Patent number: 4208023
Abstract: A tape transport for tapes stored in cassettes, where the loading and unloading of the cassette is carried out by a single in-and-out movement of the cassette in its own plane, and where tape and reel drive elements, as the cassette is loaded and unloaded, are brought into and out of penetrative engagement with the cassette in a direction substantially perpendicular to the face of the cassette. The tape transport is of the movable frame type in which a movable frame carrying the tape and reel drive elements is supported on a fixed frame for translation perpendicular to the plane of cassette movement while simultaneously following the in-and-out movements of the cassette.

  • Patent number: 4206890
Abstract: The disclosed apparatus includes a hollow column for receiving a loop of magnetic tape. A slot runs along the length of this column. A rigid conductive strip lies spaced apart from and parallel to the slot; and a flexible conductive strip lies between the rigid conductive strip and the slot. The two conductive strips form the plates of a variable capacitor. A vacuum is generated in the portion of the column lying beneath the magnetic tape loop to force a corresponding portion of the flexible conductive strip against the perimeter of the slot. Further, a partial vacuum is generated at the outside of the column near the conductive strips to force the portion of the flexible conductive strip lying above the tape loop against the rigid conductive strip. Air escape passages are included in the rigid conductive strip. As the two strips are forced together, any air lying therebetween instantaneously escapes through the passages.

  • Patent number: 4205771
Abstract: An electrode-wire feeding device in which the calibrated pushing force exerted on the electrode wire by a pair of rollers is automatically adjusted. This automatic adjustment is effected by a guide cone having an internally threaded bore which is connected to a drive motor. A housing having a hollow cylindrical externally threaded portion is adapted to be threadably engaged with the guide cone with which it is axially aligned. The housing has a pair of parallel bores the axes of which lie in a plane which is perpendicular to the feed direction of the electrode wire which is fed through the guide cone and the housing. A pair of pistons are movably mounted in the pair of bores and support a pair of rollers which are adapted to contact the electrode wire and impart a pushing and guiding force thereto. The pistons are connected to each other by a coil spring. A pair of double-armed levers are pivotally mounted on the housing.
