  • Patent number: 9605481
Abstract: A downhole adjustable drilling inclination tool including an outer housing, an inner housing, a compression spring, a piston assembly, and a tilt housing. The piston assembly is fluidly controlled to move axially along the outer diameter of a bottom end portion of the inner housing so that a rotatable control ring moves about a guide pin to hold a neutral, straight, or bent position of the piston assembly corresponding to an amount of compression of the compression spring. The tilt housing partially disposed within the outer housing includes a bolt plate pin channel configured to receive a bolt plate pin of the piston assembly that travels to tilt the tilt housing by a tilting mechanism that connects the tilt housing to the outer housing and position the tilt housing in a neutral, straight, or bent position corresponding to the neutral, straight, or bent position of the piston assembly.

  • Patent number: 9593545
Abstract: In a drill string for oil wells and the like a method and apparatus for delivering fluids to the drilled hole employs a bypass port above fluid outlets in the distal end of the string. The port may be used to deliver fluid such as lost circulation material (LCM) to the drilled hole from the surface. A volume of the fluid may be locked in the string between the port and the fluid outlets such that fluid is prevented from passing from the hole into the string via the fluid outlets.

  • Patent number: 9464482
Abstract: The rotary steerable drilling tool and system described herein combines both point-the-bit and push-the-bit techniques to actively change the direction of the borehole trajectory. In this system, the deflection of the drill bit is limited to a single degree of freedom relative to a coordinate system that is fixed to and rotates with the rotary steerable drilling tool, resulting in a simplified attachment of the bit assembly and bias unit mechanics. Further, steering of the well is accomplished by dynamically controlling the spatial phase and amplitude of the coherent symmetrical bidirectional reciprocating deflections of the drill bit relative to a fixed terrestrial datum as the tool is rotating, simultaneously pointing and pushing the bit. The amplitude and force of the bit deflections can be variably controlled during steering operations to dynamically adjust the instantaneous build rate as needed. When steering is not active, the bit can be mechanically locked into the neutral position.
