  • Patent number: 7753097
Abstract: The label making apparatus of the invention comprises a guide plate 17 for guiding a raw sheet M in a predetermined feeding direction, an inspecting device 15 for inspecting a label L on a release liner S constituting the raw sheet M, a transfer device 25 for partially bypassing the feeding direction of the release liner to peel off a label from the release liner and temporarily sticking the non-defective label at a position on the release liner advanced toward the downstream side in the feeding direction by a predetermined distance, and a collecting device 22 for collecting a defective when a defective label is detected. The transfer device 25 adjusts the bypass length of the release liner so that a certain interval is kept between the non-defective label after a defective label is detected with respect to the preceding non-defective label.

  • Patent number: 7743729
Abstract: A system for automatically and periodically applying moisture to curing concrete that can be transported from one location to another is provided. A portable concrete curing unit receives water from a water source and distributes such water to a moisture applicator that is situated near a curing concrete object. The moisture applicator applies moisture to the curing concrete so as to maintain the concrete object at a desired moisture level during the curing process. The concrete curing unit may contain a power source, a pump, and a controller. The controller is connected to the pump such that the pump will distribute water to the moisture applicator during an activation period. This timing function of the controller allows for a system and method of automatically and periodically curing concrete that can be controlled by the user without extensive need for manual labor during the concrete curing process.

  • Patent number: 7736452
Abstract: A method, in which a damaged site of a composite material structure, for example a wing skin on an aircraft, is repaired, includes the steps of repairing the damaged site with repair material, including adhesive, and at the same time bonding a test fixture, for example a button, at a test site next to the repair, by means of material that is the same as the repair material. The conditions to which the damaged site and the test site are subjected are substantially the same. After repair, the strength of the repair bond may be indirectly assessed by applying a torque to the test fixture, so as to assess the bond strength of the test fixture to the structure.

  • Patent number: 7730850
Abstract: A spray application system for applying material to a surface of a rotating body such as a beverage can includes a detector that detects the actual speed of rotation of the surface during a spraying operation. This allows a controller to adjust trigger signals for the application device to be adjusted based on speed of rotation to minimize overcoat. A laser sensor may be used as an example. The use of the speed detector also allows for partial wraps as well as full wraps of applying material to the rotating surface.

  • Patent number: 7731811
Abstract: An apparatus and method for producing a coated analytic substrate using a compact and portable automated instrument located in the laboratory setting at the point of use which can consistently produce one or a plurality of coated analytic substrates “on demand” for using the analytic substrate immediately after coating, preferably without a step of rinsing the coated analytic substrate before use. The apparatus preferably uses applicator cartridges having a reservoir containing the coating compositions used to form the coatings. Preferably the cartridges are removable and interchangeable to facilitate the production of individual analytic substrates having different coatings or different coating patterns. These coated analytic substrates have superior specimen adhesion characteristics due to the improved quality of the coatings applied by the coating apparatus and due to the quickness with which the coated analytic substrates can be used in the lab after production.

  • Patent number: 7717059
Abstract: A liquid adhesive dispensing system operable for more uniformly applying liquid adhesive foam onto moving substrates, notwithstanding changes in line speed, adhesive liquid flow rates, or foaming/atomizing air pressures. The illustrated liquid adhesive system includes a header having a plurality of air atomizing spray guns; the spray guns each having a respective variable speed positive displacement pump for directing a metered quantity of liquid adhesive from a liquid adhesive supply to the respective spray gun; and a control for controlling the operating speed of the positive displacement pumps in relation to the speed of the moving substrate and the foaming/atomizing air pressure to the spray guns in relation to the operating speed of the positive displacement pumps. The control further is operable for monitoring pressures across the positive displacement pumps for insuring the accurate direction of metered quantities of liquid to the spray guns.

  • Patent number: 7703494
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus for manufacturing a bonded substrate that suppresses a defect in the bonded substrate. When the pressure in a vacuum chamber is at the atmospheric level, upper and lower chuck units respectively attract substrates through vacuum. When the vacuum chamber is depressurized, each chuck unit electrostatically attracts the associated substrate. During the depressurization of the vacuum chamber, the pressure for attracting each substrate to the associated chuck unit is controlled to be equal to the pressure in the vacuum chamber. This prevents each substrate from falling from or moving relative to the associated chuck unit. The first and second substrates are thus bonded together and accurately aligned.
