  • Patent number: 5757120
Abstract: A color cathode ray tube device is provided in which the generation of the trapezoidal distortion of a rectangular raster is controlled and an off-axis misconvergence is corrected to obtain high image quality in the peripheral portion of a screen. An annular ferrite core is provided adjacently to the electron gun side end face of a ferrite core of a deflection yoke so as to b decentered radially within the predetermined range around the central axis of the deflection yoke in the tube axial direction. An asymmetric magnetic field is formed on the electron gun side of the deflection yoke by the annular ferrite core which has been decentered. Thus, the off-axis misconvergence can be corrected while controlling the generation of the trapezoidal distortion.

  • Patent number: 5406833
Abstract: In an atomic force microscope capable of permitting the non-destructive testing of a large sample, a fine motion element is provided for three-dimensional scanning of the sample in order to determine the surface topography thereof. The fine motion element has attached thereto one end of a small spring element, and a detecting tip is connected to the opposite end of the spring element for positioning the end portion of the spring element proximate the sample surface. A displacement detector detects displacement of the spring element by detecting laser light obtained by irradiating a laser beam on the rear surface of the spring element and detecting the displacement using a multi-segment photodetector. Since the fine motion element does not support the sample, the three-dimensional relative scanning of the sample surface by the detecting tip is possible even for large-sized samples.

  • Patent number: 5363707
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for collecting gasses from the sample headspace of a sealed sample container are disclosed. The gasses in the sample headspace are withdrawn by inserting a probe into the sample headspace and permitting the gasses to flow into an external headspace. The probe is then disconnected from the sample to seal the external headspace and the external headspace is then connected to an analytical instrument such as a gas chromatograph to permit the sample gasses to be transferred out of the external headspace and into the instrument. The step of transferring the gasses is preferably accomplished by connecting a source of carrier gas to an inlet port of the external headspace and sweeping the sample gasses from the external headspace.
