  • Patent number: 9877019
Abstract: Implementations of the invention are provided in methods for filter-unit based in-loop filtering in a video decoder and encoder. In one implementation, filter parameters are selected from a filter parameter set for each filter based on a filter index. In another implementation, the picture is partitioned into filter units according to filter unit size, which can be selected between a default size and other size. When other size is selected, the filter unit size may be conveyed using direct size information or ratio information. In another implementation, a merge flag and a merge index are used to convey filter unit merge information. A method for filter-unit based in-loop filtering in a video encoder for color video is disclosed. In one embodiment, the method incorporates filter syntax in the video bitstream by interleaving the color-component filter syntax for the FUs.

  • Patent number: 9874443
Abstract: The method employs a computer interconnected with a GPS transceiver and a distance measurement means and operatively interconnected with a digital camera, all provided on a moving vehicle, to acquire a plurality of geographic location related images. A first geographic position is obtained from the GPS transceiver and a plurality of distance measurements are then received before a second geographic position is taken. A photo request is generated after a pre-determined distance is traveled, as determined by the distance measurement means, and transmitted to the digital camera. The camera takes a photo based on the request; and the photos, photo requests, first and second positions and distance measurements are stored for post-processing. Post-processing determines a path traveled by the vehicle using the positions and distance measurements to determine an accurate geographic location and orientation for each photo. The method is suitable for building a database of geographically related images.

  • Patent number: 9862320
Abstract: A three-dimensional object detection device has a camera, a three-dimensional object detection unit, a lens cleaning device, a lens state assessment unit and a controller. The camera has a lens for forming an image of an area rearward of a vehicle. The three-dimensional object detection unit detects a three-dimensional object rearward of the vehicle based on the captured images. The lens cleaning device sprays cleaning fluid to clean the lens of the camera. The lens state assessment unit accesses whether the lens is in a predetermined state subject to control based on a timing at which cleaning fluid is sprayed on the lens. The controller suppresses detection of the three-dimensional object by retaining detection or assessment results for a predetermined length of time that were obtained immediately before the lens was assessed to be in the state subject to control, upon assessment that the lens state is subject to control.

  • Patent number: 9854261
Abstract: A video decoding method is implemented by a computer having multiple parallel processing units. A stream of data elements is received, some of which encode video content. The stream comprises marker sequences, each marker sequence comprising a marker which does not encode video content. A known pattern of data elements occurs in each marker sequence. A respective part of the stream is supplied to each parallel processing unit. Each parallel processing unit processes the respective part of the stream, whereby multiple parts of the stream are processed in parallel, to detect whether any of the multiple parts matches the known pattern of data elements, thereby identifying the markers. The encoded video content is separated from the identified markers. The separated video content is decoded, and the decoded video content outputted on a display.

  • Patent number: 9843799
Abstract: A prediction direction difference calculating unit derives a prediction direction difference in intra prediction modes of a plurality of reference blocks used for an intra prediction processing of a block to be coded. A most probable mode determining unit and a coding tree selecting unit determine a most probable mode as an intra prediction mode candidate of the block to be coded based on the intra prediction modes of the reference blocks used for deriving the prediction direction difference and the prediction direction difference, and creates a coding tree assigned with a bitstream having a shorter code length than other prediction modes for the determined most probable mode. A variable length coding unit codes information for specifying an intra prediction mode of the block to be coded according to the coding tree.

  • Patent number: 9832378
Abstract: Special blend operations for wide area-of-view image generation utilizing a “floating auto exposure” scheme are described. Pixel values in the two images being stitched together are blended within a transition band around a “seam.” identified in the overlap region between the images after changes in exposure and/or color saturation are accounted for. In some embodiments, changes in exposure and/or color saturation are accounted for through the use of one or more exposure mapping curves, the selection and use of which are based, at least in part, on a determined “Exposure Ratio” value, i.e., the amount that the camera's exposure settings have deviated from their initial capture settings. In other embodiments, the Exposure Ratio value is also used to determine regions along the seam where either: alpha blending, Poisson blending—or a combination of the two—should be used to blend in the transitional areas on each side of the seam.

  • Patent number: 9832461
Abstract: A method and apparatus for deblocking of reconstructed video in a video coding system are disclosed.
