  • Patent number: 10107040
Abstract: An earth-boring tool includes primary and secondary cutting elements mounted to a tool body. The secondary cutting elements define a secondary cutting profile. The secondary cutting profile is recessed relative to the primary cutting profile, which is defined by the primary cutting elements. In an unworn condition, the primary cutting elements engage and cut a formation material while the secondary cutting elements do not. Each secondary cutting element includes a flat surface oriented at an angle relative to a longitudinal axis thereof and extending between a front cutting face and a peripheral side surface thereof. The secondary cutting elements are oriented on the tool body such that a surface area of the flat surface thereof will engage the formation material at least substantially simultaneously when the primary cutting elements reach a worn condition. Methods of forming the earth-boring tool and methods of using the earth-boring tool are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10087683
Abstract: An expandable reamer apparatus and methods for reaming a borehole, wherein a laterally movable blade carried by a tubular body may be selectively positioned at an inward position and an expanded position. The laterally movable blade, held inwardly by blade-biasing elements, may be forced outwardly by drilling fluid selectively allowed to communicate therewith by way of an actuation sleeve disposed within the tubular body. Alternatively, a separation element may transmit force or pressure from the drilling fluid to the movable blade. Further, a chamber in communication with the movable blade may be pressurized by way of a downhole turbine or pump. A ridged seal wiper, compensator, movable bearing pad, fixed bearing pad preceding the movable blade, or adjustable spacer element to alter expanded blade position may be included within the expandable reamer. In addition, a drilling fluid pressure response indicating an operational characteristic of the expandable reamer may be generated.

  • Patent number: 10082004
Abstract: A downhole tool includes a housing. A magnet, an inductor, and a piston are positioned within the housing. The piston moves from a first position to a second position in response to a pressure of a fluid in the housing increasing. A distance between the magnet and the inductor varies when the piston moves, thereby causing the inductor to generate power.

Abstract: The invention relates to pumping engineering, mainly to well pumping devices for extracting oil from wells. The inventive method consists in assembling from the bottom upward an input cone provided with a shank, a packer and a jet pump and in running said assembly with the aid of a tubing string into a well. Afterwards, a receiver transformer of physical fields is also run into said well, background measurements of temperature and other physical fields are carried out, a formation is drained and the work of the individual interlayer of a productive strata is evaluated. An ultrasonic action is performed on the productive strata. The hydrodynamic action being performed on the productive strata during said operation, the entire formation is exposed to the combined action of ultrasonic oscillations and a hydrodynamic effect.
