  • Patent number: 12116855
Abstract: A brake system for maintaining an angular position of a spindle assembly. A pump-powered motor drives rotation of a spindle on the machine. When no rotation is desired, the spindle will slow, then stop at a desired angular orientation. A rotational sensor will determine the clock position, and a controller compares that to a desired angular orientation. If an error tolerance is exceeded, the motor will rotate the spindle back to the desired orientation.

  • Patent number: 12110781
Abstract: In an embodiment, the present system can primarily determine the pilot bore profile of a horizontal directional drill (HDD) based on the number of rod sections added and the pitch reading from the underground transmitter at the front of the drill string (as communicated to the HDD drill rig via the walk-over locator), with such calculations being able to be made at the HDD drill rig and/or related remote display on the HDD drill rig. That is, since the length of a given rod section is known and the pitch readout is provided by the underground transmitter, the change in the overall depth of the drill string can be calculated, for example, on drill rod to drill rod basis based on rise over run geometry. The walk-over locator can then be used for a secondary confirmation of the actual depth, if conditions permit (e.g., in range of a direct walk-over).

  • Patent number: 12110755
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for dropping a ball, plug or dart during oil and gas well operations (e.g., cementing operations) employs a specially configured tool body assembly having valving members (e.g., safety or kelly values) and valving members holding plugs, balls, or darts to be dropped. In one embodiment, the ball(s), dart(s) or plug(s) are contained in a sliding sleeve that shifts position responsive to valve rotation. An optional indicator indicates to a user or operator that a ball or plug has passed a selected one of the valving members. A transmitter (or transceiver) provides an ability to generate a wireless signal that is received by receivers (or transceivers) on the tool body assembly. Each receiver (or transceiver) controls an electrical actuator that engages a valving member or the indicator. Wireless signals can be used to open or close a valve or to reset a “tripped” indicator.

  • Patent number: 12049816
Abstract: A system for tracking and steering a downhole tool using an augmented reality device. A tracker tracks the location of a downhole tool as it moves underground and transmits data to the device, while one or more sensors measure a position and orientation of the device. The device analyzes the data received from the tracker and the sensors and generates a virtual image of the downhole tool. The virtual image is displayed on the device at its detected location relative to the ground surface and relative to the position of the device. The position of the displayed virtual image is modified in response to updated information from the tracker or the sensors. Virtual images representing various parameters of the drilling operation are also displayed on the device in juxtaposition with the virtual image of the downhole tool.
