  • Patent number: 4599021
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved self-threading unit which can be utilized to hold a replacement shock absorber within the cylindrical shroud of a vehicular suspension system commonly referred to as a MacPherson strut suspension assembly. The nut includes a generally cylindrical main body portion having a tapered thread forming portion on the inner wall thereof. The thread forming portion is adapted to roll form buttress-type threads on the upper end of the cylindrical shroud. The upper end of the main body portion includes a top wall having an annular bushing mounted therein for receiving the shock absorber piston rod and centering the nut as it is rotated onto the cylindrical shroud. The top wall is provided with channels extending radially outwardly from the bushing such that, in the event the shock absorber bottoms out, any liquid which may have accumulated on the top wall of the nut, will be evacuated outwardly and will not be forced into the shroud through the bushing.

  • Patent number: 4598917
Abstract: In a power chuck 1, particularly for turning machines, the drive member 11 which act through oblique surface 10-12 on the radially displaceable jaws 4 are each firmly connected to a setting piston 17 which is movable in the axial direction A, of the chuck. To effect a balanced chucking, the setting pistons are exposed to operating pressure fluid on one or both sides and can be displaced independently of each other. To displace all the drive members 11 conjointly, an actuating member 21 is provided acting on drive members 11 or the setting pistons 17 at least in one jaw-setting direction, or being positively connectable thereto. This makes it possible to chuck a workpiece centrically or eccentrically and no particular means for switching from one mode to the other are needed.

  • Patent number: 4597158
Abstract: A pressure connecting device comprising a pressure connecting rod for squeezing cables one by one into the pressure contacts of a connector to establish electrical connection, a guide bar having a slide surface being in slidable contact with the slide surface of the pressure connecting rod and adapted to support in position the cable, whereby the cable is sheared by the rod and the guide bar before squeezing the cable into the contact of the connector. According to this construction, the cutting faces formed on the pressure connecting rod and the guide bar do not collide with each other in shearing the cable, thereby to remarkably lengthen the service life thereof. Besides, the cutting faces are equal in height to the side surface of the connector, thereby preventing the sheared end of the cable from protruding from the connector.

  • Patent number: 4596498
Abstract: The operating life of the two guide members in a single bit reamer is increased by shaping the peripheral surface of the guide members with a radius of curvature less than the radius of the bore being machined. Contact between each guide member and the bore wall takes place only along a central quest area extending in the lengthwise direction of each guide member. This allows coating of the peripheral surfaces of the guide members with a hard, wear resistant material. Further, the guide members may be fastened to the cutter head by means of a screw situated in a groove extending in the tangential direction along the peripheral surface of each guide member. This increases the lubricating and cooling effect.

  • Patent number: 4594768
Abstract: Dust-pressed plates (P) are trimmed to a predetermined peripheral profile by means of three milling cutters rotating at around 12,000 r.p.m. The cutters are uniformly spaced about a central axis and operate simultaneously on the periphery of a plate while the plate is rotated about the axis. The cutters are located during trimming by means of a profile cam which is in registration with the plate mounted on a ware support. To ensure registration with the cam, a plate is centered by a centering unit before being orientated by orientating mechanism and transferred to the ware support. Each plate is delivered to the centering unit with a reference feature at a predetermined position on its periphery, the orientating mechanism being arranged to search for that feature before rotating the plate to bring it into the required orientation for registration with the cam.

  • Patent number: 4669808
Abstract: The receptacle (2), which is especially for mating with a ceramic chip resistor (4), comprises first and second superposed plates (6 and 8) defining a tapered passage (12). The plates are joined by resilient bights (14) on opposite sides of a mouth (10) of the passage (12). The first plate (6) is connected to the bights (14) at positions (P) spaced back from the mouth (10) so that a portion (15) of the first plate (6) projects freely between the bights (14). The resistor (4), when inserted into the passage (12) by way of the mouth (10), tilts the first plate (6) about its connections with the bights (14) so that the resistor (4) is tightly gripped between the plates (6 and 8) when the leading end (37) of the resistor (4) reaches a stop (28) beyond the positions (P) at which the first plate (6) is joined to the bights (14).

  • Patent number: 4591172
Abstract: In a power chuck including jaws moved by drivers which are displaceable in the axial direction of the chuck body by means of an axially displaceable actuating member mounted in the chuck body, the actuating member is coupled to the individual drivers through two gimbal rings which compensate for unequal displacement of the jaws. The gimbal suspension can be bridged by connecting the rings rigidly to each other. A balanced as well as centric clamping of a workpiece may thus be effected. The manufacturing costs are low so that both economy and high reliability in operation are obtained.

  • Patent number: 4591171
Abstract: Means are provided to introduce pressurized fluid from a source into an intermittently rotated machine tool such as a chuck while the tool is stationary. The means includes a stationary annular shell surrounding a portion of the tool and radially spaced a short distance from the surface of the tool. The inside of the shell has a channel which seats an annular flexible U-shaped seal the radially outer ends of the legs of which are rigidly secured to the shell. The inner face of the seal is a web having a relatively stiff center band which, under fluid pressure is forced to shift into contact with the surface of the tool to form a seal on each side of a groove in the tool's surface. A restricted opening permits fluid from the inside of the seal to be introduced into the groove to supply the tool.

  • Patent number: 4589807
Abstract: Apparatus for cutting a circular hole in a workpiece having relatively low compression strength, including a hollow cylindrical drill having, at its outer terminal end, an annular cutting edge of a predetermined diameter for cutting a hole in the object. The drill includes a cylindrical wall having an axially inwardly converging sidewall portion for radially compressing the material severed from the object being cut and an inner cylindrical throat portion of a predetermined axial length and a predetermined reduced diameter for forming a continuous core of severed material. The cylindrical wall includes a tubular discharge section, axially inward of the throat and communicating with an open outlet end of the tubular member, to allow the compressed core to partially radially expand and freely axially pass. The diameter of the discharge tubular section is greater than the diameter of the throat portion but less than the diameter of the annular cutting edge.
