Abstract: A computing system includes one or more input-device user-interface runtime applications to dynamically display images on a dynamic input device. The one or more input-device user-interface runtime applications are executed in a currently active desktop. The computing system further includes a dominant application configured to execute in the currently active desktop. The dominant application is configured to specify an input-device user-interface runtime application corresponding to a current context of the dominant application. The specified input-device user-interface runtime application is configured to dynamically display virtual controls on the dynamic input device. The specified input-device user-interface runtime application is also configured to report activation of the virtual controls to the dominant application.

Abstract: There is provided an apparatus for aligning document actions specified in a documented procedure with demonstrated user actions. The apparatus includes an alignment device for computing an alignment between the document actions and the demonstrated user actions based on at least one similarity metric.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products are provide for accepting a user's selection of sort options for sorting a table according to embodiments of the present invention. Embodiments include selecting a representative shape for displaying sort options; identifying one or more columns in the table available for selection as a key for sorting; displaying, together in a GUI, identifications of the one or more columns and the representative shape; and receiving, as a user's selection of one of the columns as a key for sorting, an invocation of a GUI control associated with an identification of the selected columns.

Abstract: An electronic device which displays a function setting menu for managing plural items by a hierarchical structure on a display and sets setting contents of various functions based on the function setting menu displayed on the display, comprising: a display control unit which displays each item in the function setting menu having the hierarchical structure on the display based on the hierarchical structure in accordance with an operation by a user; a function selection unit which selects and displays on the display the content of a desired function based on the items of the function setting menu displayed by the display control unit; and a hierarchical structure changing unit which changes the hierarchical structure of the function setting menu so to have the item, which is selected by the function selection unit and displayed on the display, positioned at the top of the hierarchical structure.

Abstract: A digital calendar sharing control and visibility system and method for providing a user with control and visibility of digital calendar sharing. The system and method enhance and improve the sharing capabilities of current digital calendar applications. The system and method include a time-based (or expiration) sharing feature that gives a user control over the expiration date of the calendar sharing. The user can expire the sharing after a certain duration or date. The user also can specify a date range or a time range that a person can view in the user's digital calendar. A sharing audits and history feature allows a user to view who has looked at their calendar and what calendar information has been viewed. A private notes section allows a user to enter information that will not be seen by another person, even if that person has sharing permission to view the user's calendar.

Abstract: A request is received to display a first object in a graphical user interface (GUI) of a computer system containing several objects having more than one type, some of the several objects being associated with each other. An operation mode setting is accessed. In response to the request, an overview screen is displayed including a first GUI component presenting attributes of the first object, and at least one second GUI component, presenting information from at least a second one of the several objects associated with the first object, and configured to operate in (i) an auto load mode for automatically loading and presenting the information upon display, and (ii) a deferred load mode where the information is loaded and presented upon the user activating the second GUI component. The second GUI component uses one of the auto load mode and the deferred load mode based on the operation mode setting.

Abstract: A menu displaying method for displaying a menu containing a plurality of menu items on a display screen comprises a menu item arrangement step of arranging the menu items in a prescribed three-dimensional virtual body to squarely face the display screen so that each menu item will have at least a viewable part that is not screened by other menu items in front of the menu item and a menu item moving step of moving the menu items arranged in the menu item arrangement step according to a prescribed user operation while keeping the menu items squarely facing the display screen. By the menu displaying method, a large number of menu items can be displayed on a screen while minimizing deterioration of viewability of the menu items.

Abstract: The use of gestures to organize displayed objects on an interactive display. The gesture is used to move the displayed object to the edge of the interactive display so that the displayed object is only partially displayed after being moved. The size of the displayed object may be reduced and/or the displayed object may be rotated such that an identified portion of the displayed object remains in the display after moving. A gesture may also be used to move multiple displayed objects to the edge of the display.

Abstract: A display for identifying a floor of a building being monitored presents a plurality of groups of floors and a plurality of floors in a group. The groups can be of floors and selected plurality of floors automatically presented to identify one or more floors that are exhibiting a selected ambient condition being monitored. Alternately, a slide can be used to identify one of a plurality of floors. A zoom function can also be provided.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments of the present invention are directed to a method for automatically selecting images, from among multiple images, for sequential display, comprising: establishing a total time for a sequential display of a set of selected images; clustering images into groups; ordering the images based on image quality; and selecting at least one of the images within a selected group based on the image quality and total time for inclusion in the set of selected images.

Abstract: A method of visually presenting a message includes detecting that a screen reader application is being used in a computer system having a graphical user interface (GUI). The GUI presents messages of a first type by displaying a popup window and presents messages of a second type in a predefined field of the GUI. The screen reader application is configured to detect display of the popup window but not configured to detect presentation of the messages of the second type in the predefined field. The method includes detecting a system event that causes a first message to be presented in the predefined field, the system event resulting from evaluating user input information. The method includes presenting, in response to detecting the system event, a second message in the popup window, the second message being associated with the first message. The predefined field may relate to a message log.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus which displays a thumbnail image of a stored image is disclosed. When a thumbnail image of a stored image is displayed, it is determined whether the stored image is open or secret by using an attribute attached to the stored image. When the stored image is open, the thumbnail image of the stored image is displayed, and when the stored image is secret, a dummy thumbnail image is displayed.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product for displaying a graphical element within a graphical user interface is presented. A registration is made with an operating system (OS) to be sent a notification when a predetermined file type is being displayed in a user's desktop. At some time an event notification is received regarding the graphical element. A file to display as a graphical element is determined, as is a location to position the graphical element in the user's desktop. The graphical element representing the file is displayed, as is a segment controller with the graphical element, the segment controller operable to permit a user to select which segment of the file to be displayed in the graphical element.

Abstract: A navigation interface display system generates a navigation element that organizes television programming data in an easy-to-use manner. The navigation element employs a hierarchical display protocol for a plurality of selection items that represent the various television programs, channels, and/or networks. The hierarchical display scheme displays a limited number of active selection items at a first magnification level and additional active selection items at a second magnification level. In addition, the selection items are displayed on distinctive areas or features of the navigation element, where such features represent different content genres or categories. Subcategories can also be displayed in a hierarchical manner, thus providing additional information related to the content as the magnification level of the navigation element changes.

Abstract: One aspect of the invention involves a computer-implemented method in which a server computer sends to a plurality of client devices associated with computer users in an online discussion information corresponding to: a map, an icon for a meeting spot to be overlaid on the map, a plurality of icons representing at least some of the computer users in the online discussion, to be displayed at a same time as the map, and an icon to initiate online communications between a respective client device and a computer associated with the meeting spot. The server receives a request to initiate online communications between the computer associated with the meeting spot and at least one client device in the online discussion; and initiates online communications between the computer associated with the meeting spot and the at least one client device in the online discussion.

Abstract: Various embodiments utilize a presence-based network to provide a suite of services that build upon the presence-based or instant messaging foundation. In at least some embodiments, the presence-based network is utilized to implement a number of location-aware applications. In at least some embodiments, as part of a user's presence information, their particular location is ascertained and made available to others on the presence-based network. Location can be a physical location or a logical location. Their particular physical location can be visually represented to others by, for example, displaying a map that indicates the user's location.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for presenting a data input interface. In one exemplary embodiment of a method described herein, a text input field is displayed and, through a first input to the text input field itself, a selection between at least a first operation and a second operation can be made. A first input is received to determine a selected operation which is one of the first operation or the second operation, and a text input is received and the selected operation is performed. Other methods are described, and apparatuses are also described.

Abstract: Outputting a user interface having a list of a plurality of representations of media items on a display of a computing device is presented. In one embodiment, a center locking region (CLR) is defined in the user interface and covers a portion of the plurality of representations, wherein navigation from a first representation within the CLR to a second representation outside the CLR causes a scrolling of the second representation into the CLR on one horizontal side and a scrolling of a third representation within the CLR out of the CLR on the other horizontal side while navigation through a portion of the plurality of representations within the CLR causes no scrolling. In another embodiment, a gap indicating a beginning and an end of the list is displayed and a scrolling occurs when the gap is within the CLR and a horizontal navigation within the CLR is performed.
