Abstract: A set of application icons can be displayed on an interface (e.g., a home screen) of a computing device. The icons can include a center icon and at least one of a subset of application icons to the left or to the right of the center application icon. Displayed below the icons can be a portion of an application window. The application window can be associated with the center application icon and can display content associated with the center application icon. The user can utilize a fingertip or object to select an area of a display screen associated with the application window and the user can perform an input motion from the area to a region associated with the set of application icons to animate a departure of the icons and an expansion of the application window to display additional content. Further, the input motion can enable at least one additional function associated with the application window.

  • Patent number: 9778827
Abstract: In the present invention, a plurality of functions are allocated to respective rotary encoders (RE1 to RE5) from among numerous functions involved in ultrasonic diagnosis, and each of the rotary encoders selectively targets for operation each of the allocated plurality of functions. Names for the plurality of functions allocated to each of the rotary encoders are displayed as a bundle within respectively corresponding function menus (FM1 to FM5). Within each of the function menus, the name of the function that is currently being targeted for operation is given a special display mode. For example, the function menu (FM1) displays BbH and AIP, which are the names for two functions allocated to the rotary encoder (RE1), the lower AIP being displayed at a lower brightness than the higher BbH, to explicitly show that the current target for operation is BbH.

  • Patent number: 9766788
Abstract: This is directed to rotating an entire user interface of a portable electronic device. In particular, this is directed to defining a UI orientation mode in which a user can direct the device to rotate a UI. When the UI orientation mode is enabled, the electronic device can detect particular inputs, for example based on the outputs of motion sensing components such as an accelerometer and a magnetometer, to determine how to rotate the UI. Once the UI has been rotated to a desired orientation, a user can lock the UI orientation and exit the UI orientation mode.

  • Patent number: 9753990
Abstract: A system is described that infers information about a user and then provides the user with an opportunity to provide input about (e.g., confirm or deny) the inferred information. Inferred information is presented to a user only after certain triggering events have occurred. For example, a sensitive item of inferred information may be presented to a user only after the user has reached a certain stage of relationship with a system, device or service that is deemed compatible with presenting such sensitive information. As another example, an item of inferred information may be presented to a user only after it has been determined that the item of inferred information is likely to be correct with a certain degree of confidence. As a still further example, both sensitivity and confidence level may be used to guide when a particular item of inferred information will be presented to a user.

  • Patent number: 9728224
Abstract: A video editing system comprising a computer or mobile device with a display screen, executing a software program whereby virtual film editing equipment is projected on the screen and used to edit motion video and audio programs as if they were physical strips of film or magnetic tape. The user of the system uses a fingertip, mouse, or spoken commands to control the virtual film editing equipment in much the same manner as mechanical film equipment is used to edit film and magnetic tape. A virtual camera on the screen is used to select video or audio clips to edit. A virtual film viewer is used to cut the virtual film clips. A virtual film reel is used to represent the assembled clips organized into a hierarchical structure. A virtual film projector is used to present choices to the user for the export of the reels for presentation to an audience.

  • Patent number: 9679054
Abstract: Embodiments are provided for facilitating playback of media content on a webpage by a playback zone in a media playback system. Upon, or subsequent to opening a web-browsing interface, one or more playback zones of a media playback system may be identified, and links to a playable media item may be identified on a webpage to be displayed by the web-browsing interface. The webpage may then be modified such that a representation associated with the link may be selected to prompt a display of the one or more identified playback zones. A selection of one of the one or more identified playback zones may then cause the media item to be played in the selected playback zone.

  • Patent number: 9671945
Abstract: Certain aspects direct to a computing device for launching a virtual machine at a hypervisor. In certain embodiments, the computing device is a thin client or a zero client, which stores a user interface (UI), a first virtual desktop client (VDC) and a communication module. The UI receives input from a user of the computing device, and initializes the first VDC locally. The first VDC communicates with a first virtual machine (VM) hosted by a hypervisor of a remote computer system, receives desktop video display signals from the first VM, and sends signals associated with input from a user to the VM hosted by the hypervisor. The communication module constructs a first web-services message in accordance with a first web services protocol, and sends the first web-services message to the hypervisor, wherein the first web-services message instructs the hypervisor to perform a hypervisor management function.

  • Patent number: 9665275
Abstract: A technique is presented for fast input of multi-character compound consonants and vowels on a touch computing device. The technique provides for fast input of multi-character compound consonants and vowels by enabling a user to touch an initial character on a first layout of characters, then slide his/her finger in different directions and/or different distances according to a second layout of characters. The second layout of characters can be based on the first touched character and therefore can have a limited set of characters, e.g., fewer characters in comparison to the first layout of characters. A syllable formed after input of both a consonant and a vowel, represented as one character set, e.g., in the Roman alphabet, can then be transliterated into another language, e.g., Chinese.
