Abstract: A cosmetic stick for a powder pencil comprises a stable stick body formed from powder base material and pigment, optionally with binding agent, lubricant and/or adhesion-enhancing agent, together with a particulate material which is additionally contained in the stick body in finely divided form, the particles thereof being harder than the base materials. The particulate material includes at least one derivative of tricalcium phosphate, tetracalcium phosphate or calcium pyrophosphate.
Abstract: A prosthetic device formed of a biodegradable material and useful as a ventilation tube for insertion between the middle ear and the outer ear. The device includes a shaft with an axial passage, an inner flange and an outer flange. At least a portion of the outer surface of the shaft is tapered, with the taper increasing from the inner to the outer flange. The larger diameter outer flange and any attached portion of the shaft are, therefore, forced outwardly when the tapered portion of the shaft is in contact with animal tissue biodegrades before other portions of the prosthesis.

Abstract: This invention provides polyheterocyclic compound useful as a flavorant additive. In one embodiment, this invention provides a polyheterocyclic flavorant additive for smoking compositions such as 1,2-bis(3,5,6-trimethyl-2-pyrazyl)ethane: ##STR1## Under smoking conditions the above illustrated polyheterocyclic additive flavors the mainstream and sidestream smoke. In another embodiment, this invention provides a polyheterocyclic such as 1-(3,5,6-trimethyl-2-pyrazyl)-2-(2-pyridyl)ethane.
Abstract: A fluid pressure treating apparatus including a cylindrical tubular shell with a reciprocal spool assembly mounted for movement between a loading position outside the shell and a treating position within the shell, sealing members on said spool assembly for engaging the shell to form the pressure chamber. Conduits are provided to introduce processing fluid into the pressure chamber.
Abstract: A graft is used to supply blood to one or more coronary artery branches. The graft has an elongated U-shaped tubular body providing a continuous passage for carrying blood from a high pressure blood supply to a blood receiver. One or more openings in the body allow blood to flow into the coronary artery branches. The flow and pressure of the blood in the passage is controlled by a restriction located remote from the inlet end of the tubular body. The pressure differential between the blood supply and blood receiver maintains continuous and adequate blood flow at a desired pressure in the body passage and provides a continual supply of blood for the coronary artery branches.
Abstract: Absorbable, substantially amorphous surgical fasteners having good in vivo strength-retaining and absorption characteristics may be made of copolymers of lactide and glycolide made from 70-85% m lactide and 15-30% m glycolide provided the inherent viscosity and glass transition temperature of the copolymers have at least certain minimum values.
Abstract: This invention provides tobacco compositions which contain a hydroxy-substituted carboxylate compound as a flavorant additive. In one of its embodiments, this invention provides tobacco compositions which contain a hydroxy-substituted alkanoate flavorant additive such as ethyl 2-(2-butyl)-3-hydroxy-3-methyl-3-phenylpropionate: ##STR1## Under smoking conditions the above illustrated hydroxy-substituted alkanoate additive and its pyrolysis products flavor the mainstream and sidestream smoke.
