  • Patent number: 4748990
Abstract: A cosmetic applicator having a squeezable, flexible walled container for storing a liquid cosmetic, and bottle cap means threadedly engaged on the neck portion of the container. The cap means has integrally associated therewith a bristle brush assembly and removable overcap means for covering the brush and sealing it against outside air when it is not in use. Sealing plug means fixedly secured in the opening of the container neck between the bottle cap means and the interior of the squeezable container cooperates with the bottle cap means to provide a valve means adapted to open or close in varying extends a central axial passage disposed commonly with respect to the bottle cap means and brush assembly whereby relative angular rotation of the bottle cap means relative to the container acts to vary precisely the amount of liquid cosmetic material flowing through the aforementioned central passage common to said bottle cap means and said brush assembly upon squeezing of the flexible walls of the container.

  • Patent number: 4748974
Abstract: A stiff, water resistant laminated medical or veterinary dressing is described along with a procedure for forming the final hardened dressing. The dressing is obtained by treating a gypsum bandage with an aqueous dispersion of a synthetic resin and then forming a layer from it which is immediately adjacent to a layer formed from a water hardenable synthetic resin bandage. Either layer may be formed first and further layers may be formed so long as the layers alternate between those formed from wraps of the gypsum bandages and those formed from wraps of the synthetic resin bandage.

  • Patent number: 4737108
Abstract: A tactile code for use by visually impaired and blind persons comprising embossed alphabet symbols representing the letters of the conventional Roman alphabet and embossed numeral symbols representing the conventional Arabic numerals. All of the alphabet symbols and the numeral symbols comprise at least a frame, and at least some of the alphabet symbols and numeral symbols also comprise an interior portion surrounded by the frame. The alphabet symbols are divided into four regions, the alphabet symbols in the first and third regions having a circular frame and the alphabet symbols in the second and fourth regions having a square frame. Each of the alphabet symbols embodies at least a physical association with its corresponding capital letter of the Roman alphabet. The numeral symbols all have a diamond frame, and each of the numeral symbols embodies at least a logical or physical association with its corresponding Arabic numeral.

  • Patent number: 4655210
Abstract: A disposable bandage, and a process for manufacturing it, which is prepared from a single sheet or strip of liquid permeable, flexible thermoplastic hydrophilic foam. The process includes coating the entire surface of one side of a foam sheet or strip with a layer of porous pressure sensitive adhesive, positioning wound release material in the area of the sheet or strip intended for wound contact, covering the same side of the laminate with a suitable release liner and heat compressing the laminate except at the locus of the wound release material. The foam bandage so produced includes both a resilient absorbent pad and thin but absorbent adhesive-coated tabs. Optionally, the bandage may have a moisture vapor permeable, moisture impermeable skin thereon, to provide a water- and bacteria-proof protective outer layer for the foam bandage.

  • Patent number: 4564033
Abstract: A hair curling roller system having a plurality of post members have substantially the same outer diameter for heating the rollers and a plurality of rollers having inner cavities for mounting the rollers on the posts with such inner cavities having substantially the same inner diameters. There are at least two groups of the rollers, with the outer diameter of the rollers of one group being larger than the outer diameter of the rollers of the other group. Each of the curling rollers includes an interior core member having an opening in one lateral end of the core member and longitudinally extending within the core member; this core member is formed of a material highly conductive of heat. In each of the larger rollers the interior core has a central hub and a plurality of heat radiating fins extending out from the hub for facilitating the transfer of heat to the outer surface of the roller. A hollow sleeve member with a flocked outer surface is arranged over the core member.

  • Patent number: 4548218
Abstract: A hair curler roller having a top and bottom end adapted to be heated while its bottom end is seated on one of a plurality of identical frusto-conical, heated posts of a heating unit. The roller consists of a cylindrical shell of a material of low heat conductivity, such as a synthetic resin, provided on its outside with hair-gripping means, and of a sleeve of a material of high conductivity, such as aluminum, inserted into the shell in intimate contact therewith. The top of the roller is preferably closed by suitable cover or cap of a synthetic resin, while the shell and the sleeve are open at their bottom. The sleeve comprises an upper cylindrical main portion closely adhering to the inside of the shell, and a lower, short neck portion of a smaller diameter, spaced apart from the shell wall. The neck portion is slotted by a plurality of slots permitting the outward expansion of the neck portion conforming to the shape of the frusto-conical post on which it is positioned.

  • Patent number: 4108184
Abstract: Clamp devices for use in selectively altering hair color-color, especially advantageous for use with off-the-scalp type bleach materials, comprising two bars hinged at one end to each other with a latch at the other end for removably holding them in the closed position with one face of one bar tightly against the opposed face of the other bar. The adjacent faces of each are aligned so that they may be placed close to the scalp with tresses of hair between the opposed faces, one of which may have spaced recesses for the tresses. A shield, e.g., a sheet of plastic, preferably is secured along one edge to one of the bars which extends away from said aligned edges far enough to underlie the tresses held in the clamp and protect the underlying bar from hair color altering liquids applied to the clamped tresses.

  • Patent number: RE32349
Abstract: A hair roller adapted to be heated by being positioned on a hot post of a hair setting unit, consists of a plastic, cylindrical and hollow outer body, provided with outstanding teeth on its outside surface. It is closed at its upper end and open at its lower end, its hollow portion being cylindrical in its upper part, extending to about two thirds of its length, and the remaining lower third is tapered towards the lower opening. A tubular insert, made of a resilient aluminum alloy, extends the length of the hollow portion. It is longitudinally slit over its entire length, and the two edges of the slit extend to both sides of an inwardly projecting longitudinal ridge provided in the cylindrical part of the hollow portion. The insert is provided with an outwardly projecting lug on one edge of the slit, which engages with a perforation or a recess in the outer body.
