    Abstract: A foam composition obtained by first forming a pre-blend reaction product by reacting about 200 to about 250 parts by weight melamine with about 20 to about 100 parts by weight phenolic resin having benzylic ether linkages in the presence of a catalyst and further reacting said pre-blend reaction product with about 20 to about 100 parts by weight isocyanate and about 20 parts by weight polyethylene glycol. Such foams are essentially non-burning under fire conditions and exhibit excellent compression strength characteristics while being virtually non-firable.

    Abstract: Crude tall oil and water undergo a mass transfer at predetermined temperature and pressure values so as to remove salts from the oil. The flow of the crude oil through a collector disposed beneath an evaporator is maintained at a speed 8 to 80 times less than the trickling speed of the crude oil flowing through the evaporator. Salts are also precipitated from the crude oil by a cooling process.

    Abstract: Reaction of a diepoxide with a mono-, or, preferably, dicarboxylic acid yields a prepolymer having both hydroxy and epoxy groups. This prepolymer, when reacted with a polyisocyanate, yields a poly(oxazolidone/urethane) thermoset composition which is substantially free of isocyanurate linkages. The thermoset contains oxazolidone linkages in its backbone which are separated from one another by ester linkages. Urethane linkages are present in side chains attached to the polymer backbone of the thermoset.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the production of polyurethane urea products from isocyanate product blends and preferably less reactive, aromatic diamines, or solutions of aromatic diamines in relatively high molecular weight polyhydroxyl compounds, the reaction components being reacted in a casting process with commercially-reasonable casting times and comparatively short demolding times. For this purpose, relatively high-molecular weight polyhydroxyl compounds, optionally in the presence of low molecular weight diols are reacted with excess quantities of toluene, phenylene or hexamethylene diisocyanate to produce a substantially diisocyanate-free NCO-prepolymer. This NCO-prepolymer is mixed with from 0.1 to 25%, by weight, of less reactive, monomeric tetra-alkyl-diphenylmethane diisocyanates corresponding to the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 to R.sub.4, which may be the same or different, represent C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl radicals.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus for shaping of mats composed of loose fibers with a thermosetting resin interspersed throughout. The apparatus compresses the mat and exposes its laterally extending surfaces to elevated temperatures to obtain partial curing thereof. Slits are made in the surface regions adjacent areas where extra shaping will occur in forming the final product. These slits enable more precise shapes to be impressed upon the mat and eliminate the tendency of the partially cured areas to spring back to a position of lesser compression.

    Abstract: Apparatus for extracting precious metals from their ores in which the ore is particulated and mixed with a binding agent to form a paste. The paste material is discharged into a rotary drum at an extruding station where it is pelletized by forcing it through a perforated sidewall of the drum. The pellets are discharged onto a conveyor belt and are transported to a spray station where they are wetted with a lixiviant solution. The lixiviant coated pellets are then dried by exposure to a heated air stream at a drying station as they are transported to an open air curing stockpile. The cured pellets are heaped in a pile and are then washed with a water spray to yield a pregnant solution of a precious metal salt.
