  • Patent number: 6295797
Abstract: An agricultural harvesting machine, such as a baler, is provided with a pick-up assembly and a feeder mechanism for picking up crop material from a field and feeding it to the inlet of a baling chamber. A crop retainer mechanism, such as a windguard, are mounted above the feeder mechanism for engaging the upper portion of said crop material whilst it is being fed to said inlet. The retainer mechanism is movable between a lower position assumed when no crop material is present on said crop intake apparatus and an upper position when a considerable amount of crop material is present on said crop intake apparatus. The harvesting machine is also provided with a dampening mechanism for damping the motion of said crop retainer mechanism. Advantageously, the motion is damped by a pair of gas springs mounted to the transverse rod of the windguard. This arrangement precludes sudden movements of the windguard and ensures a regular flow of the picked up material to the baling chamber.

  • Patent number: 6295746
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling movement of a work implement movably connected to a work machine. Movement of the work implement is controlled by manual and automatic control valves that are associated with “manual” and “automatic” modes of operation. The manual and automatic control valves are connected between hydraulic motors for controlling movement of the work implement and a hydraulic fluid supply. Each of the manual and automatic control valves governs hydraulic fluid flow to the hydraulic motors. A pressure sensing device is associated with the manual control valves to detect operator modulation of the manual control valves and thereby alter operation of the automatic control valves in the “automatic” mode on the same side of the implement.

  • Patent number: 6263652
Abstract: A harvesting of fruit from trees utilizing a harvesting machine which continuously advances along the row is explained. The harvesting machine utilizes a canopy penetration, fruit engagement and pressure severing method of mechanical harvesting. A plurality of arm members are held by an arm housing in either a single vertically disposed row or in a plurality of vertically disposed rows. During a harvesting procedure the arm housing undergoes a series of motions including rearward and forward on the harvesting machine as well as outward and inward therefrom. These motions may be controlled in an endless number of combinations to produce a desired harvesting action. One such harvesting action involves isolating to eliminate influence of the forward motion of the harvesting machine from the arm members during an extension motion and a retraction motion into and out of the canopy of the tree so that the arm members may enter the canopy with minimal resistance.

  • Patent number: 6260340
Abstract: Apparatus (20) for cleaning a lawn mower (10) after its use in mowing a lawn. The mower has a deck (14a, 14b) beneath which are mounted grass cutting blades (B). When cutting grass, grass clippings and other debris accumulate on the underside of the deck. The apparatus comprises a flexible tubing (24, 54) routed over an outer surface of the deck. Ends of the hose attach to a coupling (28) which, in turn, is attached to a source of water through a shut-off valve (30) for water to circulate through the hose. A plurality of fittings (32, 60) are installed in the hose at locations along its length. The fittings extend through a sidewall (40, 56) of the tubing and through the mower deck. Each fitting has a bore (38, 66) extending through the fitting for water circulating through the tubing to be drawn through the fitting and sprayed on the underside of the mower deck. The water flushes away the accumulated grass clippings and other debris.
