  • Patent number: 8892674
Abstract: Methods for integrating mobile electronic devices with computational methods for assigning priorities to documents are disclosed. In one embodiment, a computer-implemented method first receives a new document such as an electronic mail message. The method assigns a priority to the document, based on a text classifier such as a Bayesian classifier or a support-vector machine classifier. The method then alerts a user on an electronic device, such as a pager or a cellular phone, based on an alert criteria that can be made sensitive to information about the location, inferred task, and focus of attention of the user. Such information can be inferred under uncertainty or can be accessed directly from online information sources. One embodiment makes use of information from an online calendar to control the criteria used to make decisions about relaying information to a mobile device.

  • Patent number: 8856953
Abstract: Methods and systems for defining and generating fine-grained access policy for authorizing software package updates are provided. The methods of defining and enforcing a package update policy include providing a package update policy file that identifies a set of software packages and users authorized to perform package updates in association with the set of software packages, and storing the policy file on computers in a managed network. When a computer in the managed network receives a request from an unprivileged user to update a software package on the computer, the computer retrieves the package update policy file and determines an authorization of the user to update the software package based on an identity of the user, an identity of the software package, and the policy file. The computer then processes the request based on the determined authorization of the user.

  • Patent number: 8832207
Abstract: A communication system comprises an access point and one or more client stations associated with the access point. The access point maintains a simple network management protocol (SNMP) table including a respective media access control (MAC) address for each of one or more client stations associated with the access point. In accordance with some embodiments, the access point receives a SNMP request message including a MAC address of the client station for which the association is to be identified. The access point then identifies the association of the client station by searching the SNMP table for the MAC address of the client station for which the association is to be identified. Further, the access point sends a reply message identifying the association of the client station with the access point when the SNMP table includes the MAC address of the client station.

  • Patent number: 8826375
Abstract: A user annotates a shared document with text, sound, images, video, an e-mail message, graphics, screen snapshots, web site snapshots to share with others. The document and its annotations are stored in a digital object repository to which other users have access. Within the closed collaboration system, only users who are authenticated may upload digital objects, annotate digital objects and view objects and their annotations. The user sends a message to other users to invite them to view the object and its annotations and to add their own annotations. An annotated object generates an alert for all of the invited users. A remote authentication gateway authenticates users and has a repository for user metadata. Digital object repositories are separate from the authentication gateway, thus providing for disintermediation of the user metadata from the digital object data. The collaboration system may be hosted by a third party on a server computer available over the Internet that displays a web site.

  • Patent number: 8799384
Abstract: Data broadcast data, which is broadcast in data broadcasts, is constructed by disposing, for example, EMD (Electric Music Distribution) links required to acquire song data as actual broadcast data, which is broadcast in actual broadcasts by a transmitting device, the actual broadcast data is transmitted, and the data broadcast data wherein the EMD links for the song data in the actual broadcasts are disposed, is transmitted periodically during the transmission of the actual broadcast data. The actual broadcast data and the data broadcast data are received by a user terminal, and the EMD links disposed in the data broadcast data are stored whenever there is an input of an operation to attach a “bookmark”. Thus, audio data such as songs in programs broadcast can easily be acquired by radio.

  • Patent number: 8789189
Abstract: A method includes receiving a list of target addresses, locating a first page table entry corresponding to the first page, and determining the first executability state. When the first executability state is non-executable, a first set of one or more target addresses that correspond to the first page, and a second set of one or more target addresses that correspond to one or more pages other than the first page are identified. One or more target addresses are stored in breakpoint registers of the computer system. The first executability state of the first page table entry is set as executable, and the executability states of page table entries that correspond to the second set of target addresses are set as non-executable. When the first address matches one of the target addresses stored in the breakpoint registers, forensic data is recorded.
