  • Patent number: 8014813
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling feedback of mobile terminals receiving via an air interface of a mobile communication system a multicast or broadcast service transmitted or forwarded by a feedback control entity and to a mobile terminal, the feedback control entity using this method. Further, a system comprising a feedback control entity and a mobile terminal receiving a multicast or broadcast service is provided. To enable configurable and adaptive feedback for multicast or broadcast services provided via an air interface maintaining the end-to-end session concept the invention suggests selecting a subset of the mobile terminals of the mobile communication system and which receive the multicast or broadcast service for providing feedback to a feedback control entity. In one embodiment of the invention the terminals may decide whether to provide feedback based on a probabilistic experiment performed based on parameters determined and provided by the feedback control entity.

  • Patent number: 8000732
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing a floor request in a push to talk type service in which a floor is required for a first terminal to distribute media to a second terminal. The first terminal sends a floor request message to a PoC Server. The message relates to at least two different types of media content and indicates how and to what extent the granting or denial of the different media types interrelate. The message may indicate, for example, that if a first media type is denied, the others should be denied; or that the granting or denial of the first media type should not affect the other media types. The message may also indicate other conditions and relationships. The PoC Server processes the request based on the indicated interrelationships and/or conditions, and grants or denies each media type.

  • Patent number: 6629134
Abstract: A method of providing support to a user of a computer peripheral includes sensing a peripheral indicia at a computer and registering the peripheral and downloading from a server additional information about the peripheral based on the peripheral indicia. The peripheral indicia includes any of a model number, a part number, a serial number, a date of manufacturer and a configuration indicia. Registering the peripheral is performed by launching a communications browser to connect to the server. The method also senses a peripheral condition at the computer where the peripheral condition includes either an error code or a code indicative of a consumable reaching a predetermined threshold or both. This method accesses the server at an address defined by the peripheral condition, and the server provides the browser with additional information about the peripheral condition.

  • Patent number: 6546415
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for remotely managing network elements in a distributed computing system. The distributed computing system utilizes a software entity, such as an operating system, to manage the location of, and communication with, distributed resources in the distributed computing system. A network manager and/or SNMP agents can interact with distributed elements to obtain desired management information independent of the location of the distributed elements. Thus, master agents can communicate with managed network nodes without adhering to the intricate requirements of the SMUX or DPI protocols. SNMP MIBs are implemented as hierarchical file systems, comprised of a tree of file-like objects, that may be accessed through a namespace. The SNMP MIB namespace allows the network manager, master agent and SNMP agents to access each resource, including SNMP MIBs, in a uniform, file-oriented manner.

  • Patent number: 6160538
Abstract: A method of encoding manipulations of a multidimensional input device, such as a mouse, into data to be communicated to a data processing apparatus. Sensors in the input device detect manipulations of a member of the input device with respect to an X-axis and a Y-axis. From the sensor data, a direction and a magnitude of the manipulation is derived. These intermediate quantities are communicated to the data processing apparatus instead of the X- and a Y-values themselves. In the data processing apparatus, a decoder decodes the intermediate quantities into a further pair of X-and Y-values. The intermediate values more adequately represent the manipulations. Therefore, in input devices having a limited power budget, like TV remote controls and other wireless input devices, the method achieves a higher performance.
