Abstract: Techniques facilitating using a distribution system for incentivizing and accelerating data driven scientific research are described herein. The distribution system can track the input of various parties involved in scientific research, and when a reward, monetary or otherwise, is realized for one or more outcomes of the scientific research, the distribution system can distribute the reward among the parties that provided the input. The relative levels and contributions of the parties can be tracked to ensure that an equitable portioning of the reward is realized. A directed graph can be formed based on the transactions, wherein the nodes correspond to entities, researchers, publications, and the edges correspond to relationships between the entities. The directed graph can be analyzed to determine the relative or absolute levels of contributions from each of the entities, and the rewards can be distributed based on the contribution levels.

Abstract: A method for aligning digital 3D models of dental arch pairs, including a mandible and maxilla, to bring them into bite alignment. The method estimates representative planes for the mandible and maxilla 3D models and transforms the models such that the representative planes are each aligned with their respective coordinate systems and shown in a horizontal view. The method also transforms the models such that the mandible and maxilla are each aligned with a same coordinate system and shown in a front view. The digital 3D models are then brought into bite alignment such that the mandible is in occlusion with the maxilla or within a distance near to occlusion. The digital models of the bite-aligned arch pairs can also be transformed or rotated to be shown centered in a front view.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a dynamic effects subsystem automatically generates a dynamic effects animation. A graphical user interface enables an animator to sketch applied energies that influence graphical objects. Each applied energy includes flow particles that are associated with velocity fields. Over time, a dynamic effects engine moves the flow particles and the associated velocity fields along a overall direction associated with the applied energy. To generate each frame included in the dynamic effects animation, the dynamic effect engine computes samples of the graphical objects, computes the influences of the velocity fields on the samples, and updates the positions of the samples based on the influences of the velocity fields. Notably, the applied energies and the flow particles enable the animator to effectively and interactively control the automated animation operations of the dynamic effects engine.

Abstract: A system uses range and Doppler velocity measurements from a lidar system and images from a video system to estimate a six degree-of-freedom trajectory of a target. The system utilizes a two-stage solution to obtain 3D standardized face representations from non-frontal face views for a statistical learning algorithm. The first stage standardizes the pose (non-frontal 3D face representation) to a frontal view and the second stage uses facial symmetry to fill in missing facial regions due to yaw face pose variations (i.e. rotation about the y-axis).
Abstract: The techniques introduced here enable a display system, such as an HMD device, to generate and display to a user a holographic structure matching a real-world structure. In some embodiments vertices, edges and planes of the holographic schematics are generated via the use of a peripheral tool that is positioned by a user. In other embodiments, other user input indicates the bounds of the holographic schematic. In response to user action, a holographic schematic is made to appear including corresponding real-world size measurements. The corresponding measurements are used to develop a holographic structure that integrates with the holographic schematic.

Abstract: A method, computer readable medium, and system are disclosed for rendering images utilizing a foveated rendering algorithm with post-process filtering to enhance a contrast of the foveated image. The method includes the step of receiving a three-dimensional scene, rendering the 3D scene according to a foveated rendering algorithm to generate a foveated image, and filtering the foveated image using a contrast-enhancing filter to generate a filtered foveated image. The foveated rendering algorithm may incorporate aspects of coarse pixel shading, mipmapped texture maps, linear efficient anti-aliased normal maps, exponential variance shadow maps, and specular anti-aliasing techniques. The foveated rendering algorithm may also be combined with temporal anti-aliasing techniques to further reduce artifacts in the foveated image.

Abstract: A method for storing data of an image frame into a frame buffer includes at least the following steps: dividing the image frame into a plurality of access units, each having at least one encoding unit, wherein each encoding unit is a unit for data compression; and performing the data compression upon each encoding unit of the image frame, and generating an output bitstream to the frame buffer based on a data compression result of the encoding unit. A processing result of each access unit includes each output bitstream of the at least one encoding unit included in the access unit; a plurality of processing results of the access units are stored in a plurality of storage spaces allocated in the frame buffer, respectively; and a size of each of the storage spaces is equal to a size of a corresponding access unit.
Abstract: A map application is provided that allows orientations to be assigned to images such as photographs. The orientation is the direction that a real or hypothetical photographer that took the image was facing when the image was taken or created. The orientation for an image may be specified by the user, determined based on metadata associated with the image, and/or may be determined based on known features or landmarks that may be visible in the image. When an image is rendered on a map, it is displayed perpendicular to a surface of the map with the determined orientation. The amount of the image that is visible to the user depends on the orientation of the map. As the user rotates the orientation of the map, the rendered images are rotated in proportion to the rotation of the map.
