  • Patent number: 8569970
Abstract: An LED package containing integrated circuitry for matching a power source voltage to the LED operating voltage, LEDs containing such integrated circuitry, systems containing such packages, and methods for matching the source and operating voltages are described. The integrated circuitry typically contains a power converter and a constant current circuit. The LED package may also contain other active or passive components such as pin-outs for integrated or external components, a transformer and rectifier, or a rectifier circuit. External components can include control systems for regulating the LED current level or the properties of light emitted by the LED. Integrating the power supply and current control components into the LED can provide for fabrication of relatively small LEDs using fewer and less device-specific components.

  • Patent number: 8569958
Abstract: To provide a light emitting device without nonuniformity of luminance, a correcting circuit for correcting a video signal supplied to each pixel to a light emitting device. The correcting circuit is stored with data of a dispersion of a characteristic of a driving TFT among pixels and data of a change over time of luminance of a light emitting element. Further, by correcting a video signal inputted to the light emitting device in conformity with a characteristic of the driving TFT of each pixel and a degree of a deterioration of the light emitting element based on the over-described two data, nonuniformity of luminance caused by a deterioration of an electroluminescent layer and nonuniformity of luminance caused by dispersion of a characteristic of the driving TFT are restrained.

  • Patent number: 8536505
Abstract: A lighting system including fixture lamps, e.g., ceiling mounted, and movable light sources, e.g., task lamps. The task lamps include illuminance sensors arranged to detect ambient light including light emitted by one or more fixture lamps and available daylight. Control data is generated based at least in part on the illuminance data. The resulting control data is transmitted from the task lamp to a fixture lamp and a window system so that it can be used to control the amount of light emitted by the fixture lamp and amount of daylight transmitted through the window system. This arrangement allows daylight harvesting while ensuring that the amount of light provided to workspaces (at which task lamps are located) is satisfactory.

  • Patent number: 8536984
Abstract: The present invention relates to a semi-automatic method of replacing a ballast within a lighting control system, such that the new replacement ballast can operate in the same manner as the ballast that was replaced. If multiple ballasts in a lighting control system are removed from the system and multiple new ballasts are installed to replace those ballasts, any operational configurations such as group configurations or area information associated with each removed (missing) ballast must be assigned to the proper new replacement ballast. The semi-automatic replacement method relies upon the operational configurations of the removed ballast to help a user identify which new ballast should replace each missing ballast.

  • Patent number: 8531136
Abstract: Exemplary apparatus and associated methods involve a bypass module for modulating conductivity of one or more current paths to provide a first set of LEDs that are conducting near minimum output illumination and having a larger conduction angle than that of a second set of LEDs that conduct at a maximum output illumination. In an illustrative example, the conductivity of a bypass path in parallel with a portion of the second set of LEDs may be reduced while the AC input excitation is above a predetermined threshold voltage or current. The bypass path may be operated to provide a reduced effective turn-on voltage while the input excitation is below the predetermined threshold. For a given maximum output illumination at a maximum input excitation, the bypass module may control current through selected LEDs to construct an input current waveform with substantially improved power factor and reduced harmonic distortion.
