Patent number: 12656909Abstract: A pixelated mutual capacitance sensing configuration to detect the presence of floating water is disclosed. An integrated touch screen can be configured in a checkerboard arrangement of alternating drive pixels and sense pixels, where each drive or sense pixel can include a plurality of sub-pixels. The sense pixels can include sense sub-pixels surrounded by ground sub-pixels to reduce the baseline mutual capacitance between the drive and sense pixels. Stimulated drive pixels can capacitively couple onto the sense sub-pixels of the sense pixel, forming a baseline (no touch) mutual capacitance between the drive pixels and the sense sub-pixels. The presence of grounded objects shunts some charge to ground and reduces the mutual capacitance, while floating water provides and additional parallel mutual capacitance path that increases the mutual capacitance. Floating water can be distinguished from a grounded touch based on the direction of the change in mutual capacitance.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2023Date of Patent: June 16, 2026Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: William Paul, Christoph H. Patent number: 12510754Abstract: Improving the performance and efficiency of waveguide gratings while also improving the anti-reflection performance of the waveguide can be achieved by selective application of a dielectric anti-reflective coating (or coatings) to distinct regions of the waveguide. For example, a multi-layer dielectric anti-reflective coating is selectively applied to the region of the waveguide between an exit pupil expander grating and an outcoupler grating wherein light is transmitted within the waveguide via instances of total internal reflection (TIR) and where no gratings are typically present. By selectively excluding the regions of the waveguide containing gratings from receiving the anti-reflective coating, such as the incoupler and outcoupler regions, the performance of the gratings can be improved for their respective functions without compromising the anti-reflection performance of the waveguide overall.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2021Date of Patent: December 30, 2025Assignee: GOOGLE LLCInventors: Timothy Paul Bodiya, Shreyas Potnis, Syed Moez Haque

Patent number: 12510984Abstract: Various implementations include a switch assembly that includes a housing and at least two printed circuit boards (PCBs) that are disposed within the housing and are axially arranged relative to each other. One or more force sensors are disposed on one of the PCBs, and, in some implementations, the one or more force sensors receive force input received by a touch overlay plate. Signals from the force sensors are processed to determine a magnitude, acceleration, and/or location of the force input, and a haptic feedback response is received by the touch overlay plate. The haptic feedback response is based on the force magnitude, acceleration, and/or location of input, according to some implementations. Axially arranging the PCBs reduces the footprint of the switch assembly and allows for the inclusion of more electrical components in the switch assembly, according to some implementations.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2024Date of Patent: December 30, 2025Assignee: JOYSON SAFETY SYSTEMS ACQUISITION LLCInventors: Jason Lisseman, David Andrews, Daniel Alt, Nicholas Borgerding, Jason Peters, Erick Staszak, Prathap Chandra
