  • Patent number: 7797231
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for offering loans to users at a point-of-purchase transaction. Such loans are typically offered upon the decline of a user-tendered payment, for example of a credit or debit card or check, and typically at a retail physical location point of sale and/or at a retail website point of sale. The loan offer process is desirably integrated with the merchant's payment processing system. Term sets can be pre-established between the merchant and the loan offerer. Processing to determine whether to offer a loan and under which set of terms is desirably automated such that the decision can be made in substantially real time to motivate the completion of what might constitute an otherwise failed transaction.

  • Patent number: 7797238
Abstract: A method for operating an account includes several steps. The account is provided for holding assets of a customer, the account having a variable value controlled by the customer. At least a portion of the assets are held in the account for a time period that includes a plurality of cycles. At least a portion of the assets are invested during the time period, and earnings on the investment are transmitted to the customer. A plurality of average cycle values of the account are calculated, with each average cycle value calculated over one of the plurality of cycles. A minimum average cycle value is selected from the plurality of average cycle values, and a bonus is calculated based on the minimum average cycle value. The bonus is transmitted to the customer, and the customer chooses whether to repeat the process.

  • Patent number: 7792730
Abstract: A data processing system and method are provided for repetitively determining a resource amount for counterbalancing the transfer of a failure risk pertaining to a bundle of constructs that may individually fail. The system has data storage for storing reference values of the bundle of constructs for distinct individual time instances during the resource amount determination. The reference values indicate a value of a respective reference construct or a value of a reference bundle of constructs. The system further has a calculation unit connected to the data storage for calculating a value of the resource amount for an individual time instance based on the reference values. The technique is suitable for valuing a futures contract that is based on a basket of credit default swaps as underlyings.

  • Patent number: 7788160
Abstract: A system and method are provided for including a configurable order option in a listing on a network-based auction service. The system and method include specifying the configurable order using an auction application separate from the network-based auction service and communicating the configurable order option specified using the auction application to the network-based auction service as part of the listing. A seller may specify configurable order options during the creation of a listing that may be communicated to the network-based auction service along with the listing information. Configurable order options provide at least two possible choices for a bidder/buyer thereby allowing customization of the listing to the degree permitted by the seller. Configurable order options may include information such as, for example, the shipping method, payment method, an optional accessory purchase for a product in the listing, a warranty for a product in the listing, a color selection, and a model selection.

  • Patent number: 7783505
Abstract: The invention relates generally to a computer system and method for integrating insurance policy underwriting. In one aspect, it integrates an older legacy insurance policy generating system to on-line rating systems where users access the system through browsers. The computer system to perform the process of dynamically rating includes generating an input XML file of risk information that is sent to a web service and calculated in a calculation engine. The processed data is retrieved by the web service and transmitted as an XML file to a user interface that parses the rating information and displays the data.

  • Patent number: 7783571
Abstract: A systems and methods for depositing foreign funds into a native account using a foreign transaction machine are disclosed according to one embodiment of the invention. A foreign transaction machine, such as an ATM, receives and financial account number associated with a financial account and determines the native currency associated with the financial account. The foreign ATM may then receive cash in a foreign currency. AN exchange rate is received from within the ATM or through a network connected to the ATM. The foreign funds are then converted according to the exchange rate into native funds. The native funds are then deposited into the financial account. In other embodiments, the transaction machine provides transaction cards with native funds in response to receiving foreign currency.

  • Patent number: 7783533
Abstract: Selecting one or more entities from a plurality of candidate entities subject to one or more constraints is accomplished by establishing upper and lower profit-margin boundary values and determining an optimal profit-margin value within the boundary values using an iterative process. The iterative process includes one or more iterations of: setting a current profit-margin candidate based on a current upper profit-margin boundary value and a current lower profit-margin boundary value, determining whether the current profit-margin candidate value satisfies the constraint(s), adjusting the current upper or lower profit-margin boundary value based on the current profit-margin candidate value, and determining whether to use the current profit-margin candidate value as the optimal profit-margin value based the current upper profit-margin boundary value and the current lower profit-margin boundary value.

  • Patent number: 7778897
Abstract: A risk management system and method of determining risk characteristics of portfolios by generating risk factor scenarios based on stable Paretian distributions is provided. The system includes a database for storing any needed input, output, and intermediate results data. At least one module from each of the predefined types can be employed to produce a corresponding result—either intermediate or final. The risk management system and method provide possibilities to use flexible multivariate distribution exhibiting heavy-tails, skewness and different dependence structure, and characterizing the whole distribution of a given financial variable, allows users to perform flexible stress tests on all calculation levels, supplies fast analysis due to the possibility to use intermediate results in many subsequent calculations and to employ several calculation modules in parallel, allows for an efficient enterprise-wide risk management because of the possibility intermediate results to be used by many users.

  • Patent number: 7778898
Abstract: A method and system is provided to uniformly evaluate product characteristics and identifying risk factors associated with the products so that a comprehensive scoring system provides an attractiveness score by age brackets and also provides for a consistent quantification process so that an overall characterization may be viewed by a color coded scoring scheme. The scoring system is based on predetermined scores created for age brackets and pre-identified product attributes. Through user feedback a new product may be evaluated using a series of questions that are associated with the predetermined scores producing an overall attractiveness score. Through another set of questions and predetermined mitigation scores, a mitigations score may be developed for the product so that by combining the attractiveness score with the mitigation score and comprehensive product score may be produced indicative of risk.

  • Patent number: 7774266
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining a present value of an option on a security having a fixed cash flow leg based upon a Martingale. The Martingale may be based upon a ratio of the present value of the option and a numeraire. The numeraire may be a coupon annuity which may be based on coupons of the security post expiry of the option, accrual periods of the coupon, and spread-adjusted discount factors for coupon dates of the option. The spread-adjusted discount factor may be based on an instantaneous forward rate and a time-varying spread. The present value of the option may be determined based upon a spread, a notional value of the security, and an expectation of a maximum value of (1) a difference between an artificial strike coupon and a forward swap rate and (2) zero. This spread may equal a difference between the forward swap rate and a strike coupon or the strike coupon divided by the forward swap rate.
