  • Patent number: 10674638
Abstract: One technique for improving cooling system efficiency is to operate cooling for a data center with a dynamic and distributed cooling system. A distributed cooling system may include multiple compressors operating cooperatively for cooling the data center. A dynamic cooling system may adjust operation of the compressors based on one or more parameters, such as inside temperature, outdoor temperature, inside humidity, outside humidity, and load on the data center. A dynamic cooling system may operate in a fail-on mode, adjusting the load placed on independent refrigeration circuits of an air handler system to compensate for a failure of one or more refrigeration circuits. By appropriately controlling speeds of the compressors, the power efficiency of the cooling system may be improved by ensuring that all activated compressors are operating within their efficient operating range.

  • Patent number: 10654554
Abstract: A method for operating a cooling system of a ship, having a sea water part system with a sea water pump (14a, 14b) and at least one first cooling water circuit. The first cooling water circuit includes a bypass in a heat exchanger coupling the sea water part system and the first cooling water circuit and a control valve. A position of the control valve determines a cooling water proportion of the first cooling water circuit that is conducted via the heat exchanger and a cooling water proportion of the first cooling water circuit that is conducted via the bypass. The position of the control valve is controlled such that an advance cooling water temperature corresponds to a set point value. The rotational speed of the sea water pump is controlled based on the position of the control valve.

  • Patent number: 10618373
Abstract: A heat exchanger has (i) a first passage in which a first fluid flows, (ii) a heat storage body that is thermally connected to the first passage and stores a warm heat or a cold heat, and (iii) a second passage that is thermally connected to both of the first passage and the heat storage body, the second passage in which a second fluid flows. The heat storage body changes to a first phase in a solid state when a temperature of the heat storage body is lower than or equal to a phase transition temperature, and changes to a second phase in a solid state when the temperature of the heat storage body exceeds the phase transition temperature. The heat storage body stores or dissipates heat depending on a phase transition between the first phase and the second phase.

  • Patent number: 10612865
Abstract: The header tank of the heat exchanger and the heat exchanger having the same may prevent leakage of a heat exchanging medium from the header tank of the heat exchanger after a header, a tank, and a baffle are bonded by a brazing by forming concavely forming parts at an outer side of the header so that edge portions of the header at which the header, the tank, and the baffle are joined together with one another are not spaced apart from the tank and the baffle to minimize a gap (space) of portions at which inner side edge portions of the header are joined with the tank and the baffle.

  • Patent number: 10488167
Abstract: A wedge-based heat switch includes a plurality of wedge segments on a shaft, an energy storage element (e.g., a spring or pressurized cavity) configured to store (and release) energy via compression or expansion of the element along the shaft and a temperature activated phase transition material. A temperature stimulus activates the phase transition material to release the stored energy and move the wedge segments axially along the shaft to expand or contract the plurality of wedge segments. The wedge-based heat switch may be configured as a unidirectional switch, either conductive-to-insulating or insulating-to-conductive, or a bi-directional switch. The specific design of the wedge-based heat switch is informed by such factors as unidirectional or bi-directional, required preloading of a surface, conductance ratio between conducting and insulating states, temperature stimulus, switching speed and form factor.
