  • Patent number: 4210701
Abstract: Method and apparatus for using emitting, ionizing, accelerating and collecting elements in a high vacuum to implant a hard film on a plastic substrate or the like. In preparation, a slug of a selected material to be deposited as a film is placed in the emitter. The specimens or articles to be implanted are placed on supports in the vicinity of the collector. A cover enclosure is then placed in position and the region enclosed by the cover is exhausted to a high vacuum. Selected potentials are applied to various elements of the apparatus and an accelerating/directing field which may be developed electrostatically, magnetically or by a combination of both, is developed in the acceleration structure. The electrostatic field causes electron emission from the ionizing elements to develop an increased charge on the emitted ionized particles.

  • Patent number: 4210258
Abstract: A plastic bucket lid is adapted for removable attachment adjacent its periphery to a bucket. The lid defines an annular open depression adjacent its periphery, and, positioned outwardly from the depression, an annular locking slot for receiving and holding the lip of a bucket. In accordance with this invention, radially-positioned reinforcing fins are carried by the lid within the annular, open depression to restrict the flexing of its outer wall. This, in turn, has been found to reduce the tendency of the lid to be knocked off of a bucket upon being dropped or the like. Preferably, an outwardly positioned annular projection is placed in the locking slot which defines an angle of 80.degree. to 100.degree. to the plane of the annular walls defining the locking slot for improved retention of the lid to the bucket.

  • Patent number: 4209568
Abstract: A bentonite composition useful for preventing a flow of water through a structure is disclosed. The composition has substantially all of the bentonite in non-hydrated form by dispersing the bentonite throughout a non-aqueous gel formed from a non-aqueous liquid and a suitable gelling agent for the liquid to form a cohesive mass capable of adhering to a structure while maintaining a desired, cohesive form. The composition can be made into sheets, rods, tubes and the like. For example, the composition can be applied to one side of a water permeable cellulosic fiber containing sheet and the composition side of the sheet secured over an area of potential water flow.
