  • Patent number: 6676397
Abstract: In an air passage switching door, a packing material having a size approximately corresponding to a plate surface of a door base member is used, and the door base member is crossed with the packing material at a portion around a rotation shaft for rotating the door base member, so that both plate portions of the door base member are bonded to opposite surfaces of the packing material at different areas of the packing material. Accordingly, the air passage switching door can be manufactured using the single packing material.

  • Patent number: 6676504
Abstract: The present invention relates to a controller (11), a cabin pressure control system (10) and a method for controlling pressure in a cabin (30), especially an aircraft cabin. In accordance with the invention the controller (11) comprises a channel (15, 16) and a pressure differential safety function (22). The channel (15; 16) calculates a first output signal (40) for actuating an overflow valve (17) in a closed loop control based on the pressure differential between the cabin (30) and the atmosphere and additional critical parameters. The safety function (22) calculates a second output signal (41) based only on the pressure differential. The two output signals (40, 41) are compared, and the second output signal (41) is selected, if said first output signal (40) is found inaccurate. The safety function (22) assures operation of the outflow valve (17) even it the channel (15; 16) is out of function.

  • Patent number: 6672956
Abstract: A venting apparatus for chemical containers comprises a vent duct having a plurality of vent ports, a flow control mechanism, and a damper. A closure of a chemical container is coupled to one of the vent ports using suitable tubing, and a second coupling connects the chemical container to equipment that uses the contents of the container. A distal end of the vent duct is coupled to an exhaust fan. In this configuration, vapors evaporating from the contents of the chemical are safely exhausted outside a work facility. As a result, a chemical container that normally would be classified as Use-Open under applicable fire codes is converted to Use-Closed, effectively enabling the work facility to substantially increase the volume of chemicals that may be contained or used in the facility under the code, without requiring upgrade of existing facilities to Hazardous Occupancy standards, or building new facilities that qualify as Hazardous Occupancy and that can use Use-Open chemical containers.

  • Patent number: 6669554
Abstract: A hidden ventilating sill plate is fundamentally a new building product, installed along the top surface of the exterior perimeter foundation. It replaces the existing wood sill plate. The invention has a continuous set of air slot channels of a proscribed size perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, along its base, communicating natural air flow from the exterior to the interior of the crawlspace. The exterior side of the slot channels can open earthwards to allow the venting to be completely hidden from view, when the sill member extends out beyond the exterior face of the foundation and wall. The vent concealment feature also functions as a base to the siding and an integral drip edge. Insect mitigation is achieve by adding a mesh screen over the exterior exposed slotted openings. The preferred material for this invention is a plastic-fiber composite, allowing rot resistance, shear capabilities and, rapid extrusion or molding of the sill profile.

  • Patent number: 6669549
Abstract: A ventilation controlling apparatus using a slide door made of a flexible film member to solve imperfect slide action attributable to film member rigidity degradation on the fringe of an aperture. The slide door is movably disposed inside a casing which forms an air passage, and the slide door is composed of the flexible film member provided with an air-circulation aperture. Ventilation of the air passage is controlled by varying an area of blending or connection between the aperture and the air passage in accordance with movement of the slide door. A rigid support member is fitted around the fringe of the aperture on the film member, thereby enhancing rigidity of the aperture fringe.

  • Patent number: 6657863
Abstract: A fan duct assembly (10) includes a fan duct (20) and a fan (30). The fan duct is connected between a heat sink (50) and a computer casing (40). The heat sink is mounted on a heat-generating electronic device (60) accommodated in the computer casing. The fan duct is made of hard plastic material, and can therefore maintain its shape. The fan duct includes first and second flues (22, 24) oriented substantially perpendicular to each other. The fan is secured in the duct at a junction of the first and second flues. Thus, the fan duct assembly provides a passageway for air to travel between the heat sink and an exterior of the computer casing.

  • Patent number: 6655917
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for serial coolant flow control. In one embodiment of the present invention, two or more sets of angled rotating blades are used in series to increase the coolant pressure and flow. In this embodiment, the rotational direction of a set of blades is the reverse of the rotational direction of any set of blades next to it. In one embodiment, the angles of the blades are such that the forward velocity created by a set of blades is in the same direction as forward velocities created by other sets of blades in the system. In one embodiment, the blades of one set form a right angle with the blades of any set next to it. In one embodiment, the coolant flow controller is a fan. In another embodiment, the coolant is air. In yet another embodiment, the system being cooled is an electronic system.
