  • Patent number: 3950837
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for pulling a tight fitting pole piece from its housing. The apparatus comprises: a plate having at least two apertures therethrough, which plate abuts the housing when the apparatus is in operation; a contact member for contacting the pole piece; two elongated force transmittance members which fit through the two plate apertures and which are joined at one of their ends by the contact member; a connecting member which connects the other end of the two force transmittance members; and a force applying mechanism such as a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder which is positioned between the plate and the connecting member and which upon application of force against the connecting member causes the contacting member to draw the pole piece contacted by the contacting member toward the plate and out of the housing.Optional plates which cooperate with the first plate are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 3940840
Abstract: A tool is provided for the extraction of preformed fittings placed in a peripheral groove hollowed into the wall of a bore. A pincer device is formed by two tapered noses, one fixedly attached to a hollow body and the second attached to a piston capable of sliding within the hollow body. An adjustable stop controls the width of the pincer device, and a reference marking indicates the setting of the stop. A grip sleeve and positioning holder assist a user in operating the tool.

  • Patent number: 3939546
Abstract: The invention is a tool for setting jointed flooring boards, particularly of the tongue-and-groove type, having a bracket of L-shaped cross section to which a length of construction lumber is removably attached by screws. A long handle is rigidly and adjustably attached to the bracket and the user grips the handle to slide the length of lumber back and forth across the floor joists to drive a flooring panel into engagement with a mating floor panel.

  • Patent number: 3937264
Abstract: Tire bead seating and inflating apparatus of the type employing an arcuate tube having its interior connected to a source of air and including inwardly directed nozzles for directing a high volume of air under pressure toward the interface between a tire rim and a tire sidewall while air is simultaneously being applied to the interior of the tire through a conventional valve stem. The invention specifically contemplates a kit whereby such an apparatus, along with desired peripheral equipment, may be easily affixed to existing tire changing stands.

  • Patent number: 3937265
Abstract: Apparatus to be used on a heavy-duty vehicular wheel tire for dislodging the tire from the wheel during removal of the tire from the wheel and for confining a separable wheel rim, should the wheel rim become disengaged from the wheel during inflation of the tire. A rim-retaining structure includes an outwardly extending member affixed to a swivel joint secured to one end of a lever. The lever pivots about a fulcrum mounted on a support member and inflatable bellows secured to the other end of the lever position the rim-retaining means against the tire.

  • Patent number: 3934326
Abstract: An electric meter installing device which includes an annular shield plate having detachably secured thereto, a generally cylindrical housing. A pair of handles project from opposite sides of the housing and are spaced from the shield plate. A suction cup is mounted in the opposite side of the housing from that which is adjacent, and detachably connected to, the shield plate. A backup ring is secured to the inside of the housing and extends concentrically around the suction cup. The backup ring functions as a stop or abutment contacting one side of an electrical meter housing during installation with the device of the invention. A protuberant finger extends from one edge of the suction cup through the housing to permit the suction cup to be released from engagement with the housing of the electric meter to be installed.

  • Patent number: 3930530
Abstract: A clamping device for a workpiece, in particular a wheel during a tire changing operation, comprising a supporting base, an upright post wich protrudes through the workpiece e.g. the central hole of a wheel and a securing member e.g. a tube or a plate, which may be non-rotatably positioned on the post. A projection on the member engages with the workpiece e.g. a bolt hole of the wheel, whereby on application of a force tending to rotate the workpiece the engagement of the workpiece with projection and member with post prevents rotation of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 3930529
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing tread from tires preparatory to retreading of the tires in which a tire is mounted on a support and inflated and rotated on the axis of the tire. The tread is removed from the tire by a cutter disc which has cutting elements mounted thereon in an annular path with the annular path being presented to the periphery of the tire. The cutter disc and tire are moved relatively to cause the annular path of the cutter disc in which the cutting elements are mounted to traverse the tire from side to side and in a single pass across the tire the tread is removed therefrom. The relative movements between the tire and the cutter disc are under the control of a cam so that the proper contour is imparted to the periphery of the tire.
