  • Patent number: 8897145
Abstract: Network service providers have largely addressed the growth in demand for communications networks in two ways: employing faster and more robust communications protocols through equipment upgrades and increasing use of Operations, Administrations, and Management (OAM) procedures for improved network performance. Typically, OAM operations procedures used by a network protocol are unique to that protocol and are not compatible with other network protocols. Service providers with networks that use multiple communications protocols, such as networks using legacy and newly installed equipment, can have difficulty ensuring optimal performance due to non-compatible OAM operations. A method, and corresponding apparatus, for supporting OAM interworking between first and second communications protocols used in an interworking circuit of a communications network is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8873419
Abstract: When providing wireless communication capability for patient monitoring devices (PMDs) (12) in a hospital environment, the quality of a newly established wireless link is evaluated to ascertain that it is meeting quality thresholds before dropping a previous wireless link. A plurality of new links iteratively can be established and their quality assessed, if previous new network link quality does not meet required quality thresholds, until a new link is established that has a quality equal to or greater than the predetermined threshold level. Optionally, two or more links may be maintained that have signal qualities above the predetermined threshold in order to provide link redundancy for highly sensitive patient monitoring applications, such as a link between a critical patient's PMD and a nurses station, to ensure communication there between. In this manner, autonomous generation of link quality assessment reports for use by the other communicating entity or entities is facilitated.

  • Patent number: 8830965
Abstract: This radio communication method is used to perform spatial multiplexing communication between cells in the overlap cell environment. In the MU-MIMO overlap cell environment, when a null is formed between a radio base station and a radio terminal station belonging to different cells, a first set of a “call signal” and a “response signal” is used to perform mutual detection with the radio base station and the radio terminal station belonging to different cells, and then a null is formed so as not to cause interference of radio waves between the radio base station and the radio terminal station belonging to different cells. At this time, the addresses of the radio base station and the radio terminal station are used to discriminate whether the radio base station and the radio terminal station belong to the same cell or different cells.

  • Patent number: 8792437
Abstract: A method includes allocating a first channel of a wireless communication device. The first channel is allocated in response to a request for a channel to be used by a first application executing at the wireless communication device. The method also includes preventing establishment of a second channel for a second application executing at the wireless communication device by indicating to the second application, from a modem of the wireless communication device, that the allocated first channel is to be used by or is available for use by the second application. For example, the second channel may not be established for the second application at a later point in time because the second application may instead complete data transfer operations via the allocated first channel at an earlier point in time.

  • Patent number: 8780776
Abstract: Realization of sleep and reconnecting functions is developed for network systems which comprise a number of end devices, network path sharing devices and coordinators. End devices and, even, network path sharing devices can be enforced to enter a sleep state at the first preset times and wake up at the second preset times. The two preset times are either assigned offline or adjustable at run time, according to the actual traffic load in the network. When a node wakes up, it checks whether the corresponding parent node is in the active state or not. If the corresponding parent node is not in the active state, the node will find a new parent node to establish a new transmission path.

  • Patent number: 8750214
Abstract: A method in a base station for detecting a HARQ-ACK codeword comprised in a signal received from a UE is provided. The base station knows HARQ-ACK codewords being possible to detect. The base station receives (401) a signal from the UE comprising a modulation symbol. The base station estimates (402) a SNR value for the received signal, and calculates (403) soft values for the modulation symbol. When the SNR value is lower than a predetermined threshold value and when the modulation symbol of the received signal comprises more than two bits per modulation symbol, the base station uses a first mode. The first mode comprises correlating (405) only the two first calculated soft values for the modulation symbol with the one or more known possible HARQ-ACK codewords. In other cases, i.e. when the first mode is not used, the base station uses a second mode. The second mode comprises correlating (408) all calculated soft values for the modulation symbol with the known possible HARQ-ACK codewords.

  • Patent number: 8718078
Abstract: A communication apparatus able to maintain and improve the security at the time of retransmission of stored data to a network even in a network environment where multi-home connection can be made. When receiving a job through a network, the communication apparatus identifies the network through which the job is received, adds network information representing the identified network to the job, and stores the network information into a management table when the job is stored into an image forming apparatus. When acquisition of any of data stored in the image forming apparatus is requested by a terminal apparatus, whether a transmission condition is satisfied is determined based the network information for the requested data and transmission destination network information in the management table, and the requested data is transmitted, if the transmission condition is satisfied.

  • Patent number: 8717987
Abstract: Systems, methods, devices, and computer program products are described for mitigating macrocell interference during femtocell discovery in a wireless communications system. In one example, a mobile device may be camped on a macrocell. A femtocell transmits out-of-band (OOB) discovery signals to, or receives OOB band discovery signals from, the mobile device to facilitate presence detection. The femtocell may also be configured to use various techniques to transmit in-band beacon bursts (e.g., low or high power beacon bursts) to the mobile device in the macrocell frequency range to trigger the mobile device to perform an inter-frequency scan for cell reselection. The femtocell may transmit communications signals to the mobile device in a femtocell frequency range (different from the macrocell frequency range) after the mobile device has discovered and selected the femtocell.

Abstract: The invention relates to a communication method using time-division multiplexing, which enables permanent communication between user terminals. One of the terminals is a master terminal, while the others are slave terminals. The transmission channel is divided into consecutive cycles, and each cycle is divided into timeslots. Each slave terminal identifies, in a listening mode, a free timeslot in the current cycle (6) and, in a transmission mode, transmits data in the identified timeslot during at least one subsequent cycle (7). As soon as the slave terminal stops transmitting, the identified slot becomes free again.
