  • Patent number: 5443290
Abstract: An expansion joint includes first and second conduits connected by an expansion joint element. The second conduit has a liner portion which protrudes into the first conduit, so that the expansion joint element, first conduit, second conduit and liner portion together define an expansion joint cavity. A cartridge is located within the expansion joint cavity and is affixed to an end portion of the first conduit. The cartridge has a groove which faces the liner portion and houses a ring which slides within the groove while maintaining sliding contact with the liner portion of the second conduit. The outer diameter of the groove is preferably larger than an outer diameter of the ring to allow lateral movement of the first and second conduits relative to one another. Either the expansion joint cavity or the cartridge groove may be provided with a purge fluid inlet to prevent the intrusion of the service fluid and its associated contaminants into the expansion joint cavity.

  • Patent number: 5439201
Abstract: The present invention relates to a bracket for mounting fence rails and other items to common rolled metal posts, including a flat front face and a rearwardly projecting apertured web. Most commonly these are T-shaped in cross-section. The bracket includes a front plate substantially wider than the front face of the post, two rear plates behind the front plate attached to the edges of the front plate, and two mounting plates projecting rearwardly from the edges of the rear plates. The mounting plates have apertures in registration with each other. The mounting plates are attachable to the apertured web to locate the front plate in abutting relationship with the front face of the post. The front, rear, and mounting plates define a slot shaped to received the post. The width of the front plate is sufficient to include apertures for fasteners to secure fencing members, which are not obstructed by the front face of the post. A strap can be threaded through these apertures to secure a fence member.

  • Patent number: 5431453
Abstract: A pipe coupling arrangement for coupling an end of a pipe section includes a coupling body having its open end, into which the end of the pipe section is inserted. An outer ring and a radially compressed inner ring are disposed in the open end of the coupling body. Inclined peripheries are respectively defined in the inner periphery of the outer ring and the outer periphery of the inner ring. These inclined peripheries are inclined so as to become smaller in diameter as they advances towards the open end of the coupling body. The inclined periphery of the outer ring and that of the inner ring are engaged by each other. A pressing means for pressing an outer periphery of the outer ring is provided such that the inner ring is tightly pressed against an outer periphery of the pipe section via the outer ring. A space is defined by the inclined surface of the outer ring and the outer periphery of the pipe section, into which the inner ring is inserted.

  • Patent number: 5429394
Abstract: An assembly includes a quick connect cartridge which is inserted into a port of a valve or manifold in a pneumatic system for coupling external fluid lines of the system to the valve or manifold. The components of the quick connect cartridge and the O-ring seal are mounted on the tubular shank of a plug. The plug is used as a shipping pin and is also used to install the components into a port of the valve or manifold. Normally, the plug is withdrawn from the port after the components are inserted in the port. If it is desired to keep the port closed after initial installation of the components, the plug may be retained in the port until it is time to connect the port. If it is desired to leave the port permanently closed, the plug remains in place. The plug can be an open plug allowing testing of the valve in which case a dust plug is provided for shipping puposes.
