Patent number: 5193931Abstract: An improved system for making notch on notch joints and the like wherein the members to be joined have notches formed across a portion of their width. Each member includes a longitudinal extension beyond the notch and these extensions cooperate to form a joint which has a flush exterior and yet is substantially as strong as a conventional notched joint. One configuration allows the same joint members to be employed to form inline, right-angled and T-shaped joints.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1991Date of Patent: March 16, 1993Assignee: Arato Design Associates, Inc.Inventor: Paul T. Patent number: 5190322Abstract: A cuff type air seal for sealing the overlap of partly telescoped parts that has an annular body of rubber or elastomer material having annular internal air sealing beads thereon which are adapted to fit on outer peripheral surfaces of the parts adjacent their overlap. Both parts have fixed outer diameters but the outer part may be a blow molded annular component having an internal diameter which varies so usually there is clearance and a potential air leak path at the overlap. An adjustable clamp encompasses the air seal and provides a constricting force so that the air sealing beads seal on the outer surfaces of the parts even though the clearance remains. The cuff is formed with a pocket that receives and retains a headed portion of the blow molded part when telescoped over the facing headed portion of the first part, particularly when the clamp is constricted.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1991Date of Patent: March 2, 1993Inventor: William E. Patent number: 5188399Abstract: A pipe coupling device wherein the connection between pipe members is made by rotating one member relative to the other member so that a plurality of radially extending surfaces of one member face corresponding radially extending surfaces of the other member. The facing surfaces can be flat and planar. The plurality of facing flat surfaces initially face each other in an interlocking arrangement which is not tight. A single threaded adapter is then tightened to draw the plurality of facing surfaces of one member tightly against the corresponding facing surfaces of the other member.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1990Date of Patent: February 23, 1993Assignee: Spirex CorporationInventor: Michael F. Patent number: 5186502Abstract: A double-containment pipe fitting and system for joining sections of double-containment pipe includes an outer containment housing, an inner carrier housing, and a plurality of restraining devices. The containment housing has a plurality of open ends. Each open end is constructed to securely connect to an open end of a containment pipe. the carrier housing has a plulrality of open ends constructed and arranged for positioning within the containment housing. Each open end of the carrier housing is constructed to securely connect to an open end of a carrier pipe. One restraining device is provided for each open end of the containment housing. Patent number: 5184800Abstract: A portable fence system including a snow fence panel having a wood frame of 2".times.6" posts bolted together at the corners, with a 4-foot wide strip of plastic snow fence material pulled taut across the center. Each panel is 8 feet long, with a height of 6'-8" or 8'-0", depending upon the application. In both cases the geometry of the frame is optimized for maximum snow trapping efficiency and maximum snow storage, and an opening at the bottom is optimized to eliminate the tendency for snow deposition at the fence. Panels are connected to one another by rebar pins passing through specially designed rotatably mounted U-clips, which also provide attachment to rebar anchors driven into the ground. The U-clip-and-pin connections allow rapid installation and take-down, and add flexibility needed for proper installation in irregular terrain. Panels can be overlapped at either the top or bottom as required to limit space between panels to 11/2", which improves trapping efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1991Date of Patent: February 9, 1993Assignee: The Tensar CorporationInventor: Ronald D. Patent number: 5183351Abstract: A constant velocity joint has a low profile boot retainer which seals and retains a boot on the joint. The boot retainer also retains the joint's internal components within the outer race. The low profile feature allows for the use of this boot retainer when space is at a premium. The retainer has an inner and outer band which sandwich the rubber or plastic boot between them and provide a seal between the boot and the constant velocity joint outer race.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1991Date of Patent: February 2, 1993Assignee: GKN Automotive, Inc.Inventor: Dean J. Patent number: 5176411Abstract: A three-part, re-usable coupling for making a sanitary connection to a flexible hose is disclosed which includes a coupling body of corrosion-resistant material having a central channel for laminar flow. At one end of the central bore, the coupling body is provided with a standard sanitary conduit flange-face. At the other end the coupling body is provided with a notched, substantially cylindrical barb for insertion into the lumen of the flexible hose. An externally threaded section lies between the two ends of the coupling body. A split collar or sleeve which is at least as long as the barb has an externally tapered surface and a cylindrical, internal, threaded surface applies uniform compression to the end-portion of the flexible hose through which the barb is inserted. A nut having an internal taper that matches the external taper of the split collar makes up on the external threads of the coupling body urging the split collar to firmly secure the hose to the barb.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1990Date of Patent: January 5, 1993Assignee: Sani-Tech IncorporatedInventor: Paul R. Patent number: 5169176Abstract: A sleeve for clamping and connecting items to be clamped or connected includes a plurality of windings of heat shrinkable material bound into a sleeve which is placed over the item to be clamped or items to be connected. The heat shrinkable material in the sleeve is secured in such a way that upon application of heat to the sleeve, the heat shrinkable windings will shrink and exert inward compressive pressure about the inner surface of the sleeve and thereby about the item to be clamped or the items to be connected. When desired for clamping a tubular item, the clamp can be incorporated as part of the tubualr item by incorporating the windings of heat shrinkable material into the end of the tubular item. The method of clamping of the invention includes the steps of positioning a tubular item over the item to which it is to be clamped and then placing a pluraltiy of windings of a heat shrinkable material about the tubular item where it surrounds the item to which it is to be clamped.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1990Date of Patent: December 8, 1992Inventor: Robert L.
